Yeah but the 3 main teams in on him were the Cubs, A's and Dodgers. So...yeah!

Probably means Byrd is moving to LF and they're releasing Soriano then, but based on what I've read his priorities are winning team and West Coast, so it seems like a long shot.

Gammons hears he's re-signing with the A's. Wouldn't surprise me at all because he has been talking with the A the most and he wants to go back to Oakland.

It looks like Crisp is returning to A's. Crisp's agent ruled out Cubs.

It's official...Scott Boras is insane.

And what's even more insane is that some stupid team might actually pay.

Boras Seeks Five Years For Edwin Jackson: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

If this happens, I need to quit my job in finance for a Toyota dealership and represent players. There's a reason Edwin Jackson trades in uniforms as much as Jim Jackson did in the NBA.... HE'S NOT THAT GOOD.

I can see the headlines now -- "The Texas Rangers have agreed to terms with pitcher Edwin Jackson on a 5 year, 55 million dollar contract"

Oh, he's not that good? What are you basing this off of? The fact that he's been trade a lot? Mat Latos has been traded. Does that mean that he isn't good too? Does that mean that any player who get traded sucks?

7 teams in 8 seasons must mean he's OK, but he's not worth $11M a year.

I won't blame an agent asking high.

He's been worth 11ish wins over the last 3 years. 3.6, 3.8, 3.8. That's pretty consistent. So how is he not worth 11MM/year?

Because he's getting older, and doesn't have much pitching control.

Questions about pitchers durability will always have to be raised.

He's 28. He's not old.

Doesn't have much control? I'm assuming you mean BB's. I guess that means Tim Lincecum doesn't have much control either therefore he isn't worth 11MM/year. I'll be sure to let the world know that Tim Lincecum isn't worth 11 MM.

Besides age and control don't mean that he is or isn't worth 11MM/year. Just prepare yourself because he's going to be getting more than 11MM/year.

I'm not disagreeing with you that he'll get a contract that far supersedes his mediocre skills. That statement I made about the Rangers getting him sounds like the most likely scenario, especially since they missed out on resigning CJ Wilson and still haven't landed Yu Darvish yet. He's, at best, a #3 pitcher. The guy's been on 6 teams in 9 seasons because he's never taken a single stride forward to turning into the dominant pitcher people thought he would become when he was coming up with the Dodgers.

Who cares about his WAR being consistent? The only season the guy remotely earned a paycheck was his '09 season with the Tigers. And I wouldn't call going 13-9 with an ERA in the mid 3s a barn burner of a season. His ERA is ridiculously high, he has way too many starts where he goes 5.2 innings and throws 110 pitches, and his postseason starts are equally unimpressive. It's sad that some team is going to overpay a guy. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that he can't contribute to a team, but for him to potentially get $15 million + a season is just ridiculous.

Scott Boras is apparently looking for 15 to 17 million a season.

I just don't get it

You're basically paying the guy to eat some innings and not completely suck. I don't think that's worth the contract Boras is asking for. I also wouldn't be surprised if some crazy team actually pays it.

Just throwing this out there since I know both of these players are available... would you guys be averse to the Cubs trading Geovany Soto to the Rays for Wade Davis? Both teams fit a need (Cubs need pitching, Rays desperately need a catcher), both guys are under team control for a few more seasons, and both stand to gain a lot with a change of scenery, especially Davis. I think moving to a much less competitive division where he could continue to groom his skills would definitely help him grow.

Again, no substance to this rumor, just a thought. This kind of deal makes a lot of sense for both teams.
