Just throwing this out there since I know both of these players are available... would you guys be averse to the Cubs trading Geovany Soto to the Rays for Wade Davis? Both teams fit a need (Cubs need pitching, Rays desperately need a catcher), both guys are under team control for a few more seasons, and both stand to gain a lot with a change of scenery, especially Davis. I think moving to a much less competitive division where he could continue to groom his skills would definitely help him grow.

Again, no substance to this rumor, just a thought. This kind of deal makes a lot of sense for both teams.

The Cubs would end up with a couple of backup catchers in Castillo and Clevenger. I guess you hope at least one of them has starter's stuff though. Wouldn't mind having another pitcher who should improve in a weaker division. It's definitely not a bad idea, and sounds fair.

Actually now that I think about it...and looked at his page...

Wade Davis Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com

The Rays gave him one of those Longoria specials where they'll hope he really pans out and does it on the cheap:

Wade Davis rhp
4 years/$12.6M (2011-14), plus 2015-17 options

4 years/$12.6M (2011-14), plus 2015-17 club options
signed extension with Tampa Bay 3/31/11, replacing 1-year deal signed 2/26/11
11:$1M, 12:$1.5M, 13:$2.8M, 14:$4.8M, 15:$7M club option, 16:$8M club option, 17:$10M club option ($2.5M buyout)
1 year/$0.4049M (2010)
re-signed by Tampa Bay 3/3/10
1 year/$0.4M (2009)
contract purchased by Tampa Bay 11/20/08
re-signed by Tampa Bay 2/25/09
drafted 2004 (3-75) (Lake Wales HS, Fla.)
$0.5M signing bonus
agent: Jet Sports Management
ML service: 2.032

So his arb is bought out and they also have options for three of his free agent years. If they get Davis to outperform that contract, it's a steal. As it is, it's not that big of a risk as long as he can give you an extra win or two each season. He might do better than that in the NL Central. Davis is also younger than Soto, who is arb-eligible but without a cost-cutting extension like Davis', will get more expensive at a more advanced age. So I don't think it's as fair to Tampa Bay, but I can still see it happening if the Cubs threw in a few prospects (whatever they have left I guess )

Andrew Friedman is a pretty smart GM so he probably thought of other things I didn't, but even if the Cubs wanted Wade Davis I don't think Tampa would just go for only Soto.

dont compare lincecum to edwin fucking jackson you fucking idiot. get the **** out of here with that shit.

Right. Because I'm saying that they are similar. Can you read? I'm just wondering. I merely pointed out that Lincecum walks more guys than EJ. He said that EJ wasn't worth 11 MM because he didn't have control. Lincecum's control is worse than EJ's. Therefore, Lincecum MUST not be worth 11 MM.

Right. Lets use walks only to determine whose better between Edwin Jackson and Tim Lincecum.

That's stupid :slap::kick:

Didn't you use just walks to determine that Edwin Jackson wasn't worth 11 million earlier in the thread?

If he ask and some is willing to give how does that make Boras insane?
I think it makes the teams insane to pay that price for a 500 pitcher, who has control issues, and hasn't found a home in the majors yet, jumping around from 7 teams in 8 seasons.

Pitching is at a premium now, as baseball has been going back to more pitching and defense first, so I believe Edwin Jackson will get more than he's worth.

And Dabynsky, yes, I used his control as one example of why I don't think Jackson is worth 11 million a year for a long term contract. And then someone compares him to a Cy Young Award Winner.

Reds sign Ryan Madson

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Reds and Ryan Madson have agreed to a contract.

No word yet on the terms, but if it wasn't obvious enough already, the Reds are going for it in the National League Central. Madson, 31, has a 2.89 ERA over the last five seasons and saved 32 gaves in 34 chances for the Phillies last season. He should be an improvement over Francisco Cordero in the closer role.

i agree....he is probably coming to the cubs.....CO time to hold your breath! START!

It's kind of ironic you said that because I seem to recall he was very very excited when the same guy suggested the Cubs would get a boatload of prospects back from Detroit for Garza.

I mean, it still might happen, but y'know

The thing is that this rumor actually makes sense. You're talking about a team in the Nationals who have a nice core in place with a solid-to-decent rotation, who is poised to contend. They blew their wad to get Jayson Werth (who might have a bounceback) and their owner is the richest in MLB. They are the team who is most favored to land Fielder. I think the numbers may be a bit off, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Fielder land in DC.

I think it has always been texas and washington. Now all I see is washington in the rumors. The core is is good and that team can be dangerous if they get fielder.
