But the Pirates have always listen to offers for McCutchen, many...many times. Just none were appealing and didn't go high to the 'rumor phase'.

Probably just something they have to say to see who bites. Same for any team with a good player under club control.

Nats also interested in Fielder. Where are they getting all that money?

They don't have too much money on the books...besides Werth and Zimmerman. A lot is from their farm system. We can say the same about Miami.

I don't see Fielder going to the Nats. I can see Pena, tho and that does make sense. If they can sign Feidler, they will up their pursuit for Cespedes. I can actually see then over-paying him and signing to a 4-6 year contract.

That's what I was wondering. It seems for the majority of the high end FA's the Nats have stated their interest. I know they didn't get a new owner or anything like that...

Maybe the owner got lucky at the horse track.

Honor in being a ginger.

Redhead power!

Murton's career in MLB is kind of strange. He put up pretty good numbers early on and then was just demoted. He's a career .286/.352/.436 hitter with over a thousand plate appearances so it's not like he sucked that bad.

No, he sucked. He put up OK numbers when the team was awful and there was no pressure but then the next year, he went in the tank once the team was playing better and there were greater expectations (which I think was Lou's first year).

Are we talking about the same Matt Murton?

Matt Murton Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com

Lou's first year was 2007. That was also Soriano's first year, so that's one spot that wouldn't have been played regularly by Murton. Matt Murton had to play all over the field as the fourth OF and didn't have a lot of PAs but still hit .281/.352/.438 in limited playing time. The next year he played in only 19 games for the Cubs before he was done. Are we actually basing the "he sucked" argument on 19 games worth, and 42 plate appearances?
