What is your point then? Do you think the best team always win in the postseason?

The best team does not always but in answer to #1 the team that does was always focused on winning the WS, not the division they reside in. Not making the Playoffs. They focused from day 1 on the WS

They had 6 shots. How many teams had that? How many had less and won

Playoff appearances w/out a world series since 1985:

Cubs - 6
Orioles - 2
Indians - 7 (5 in a row)
Rockies - 3 (first season 1993)
Tigers - 3
Astros - 7
Brewers - 2
Pirates - 3
Padres - 4
Rangers - 5

You think St. Louis was focused on winning the WS in early August?

Perhaps I embelished a touch. Players ficus on that day. Front office focuses on everything including the World Series, but at a point you have to play the hand you are dealt. But to say When pitchers and catchers reported for the Cards that they weren't all dividers in the championship I would debate

You asked a question, I answered.

Teams get a lot more interesting if you just do the last 20 years.

It's a given though and never ever needs to be said

Given the number of definitive statements that have been made in this thread and many others in this forum, I would strongly disagree with your assessment that it is given for everyone here.

Well you cant help those that deny possibilities regardless of how small in subjective discussions. After all, this is sports not 2 apples + 2 apples

Sorry if my comment was misunderstood. I'm applauding your work first and making my point second :)

I'd send you a rib if I could *burp*

I think ultimately we are arguing around and around on the same line of thinking here. The Cubs aren't going to be world beaters next year. It is debatable if they are going to be good enough to win a weak division or finish in last place next season. I guess the point is that just because the Cubs position themselves for that slim possibility this year doesn't mean that the front office's view isn't on longterm organization building to the point that the World Series is a realistic goal every year.
