If a team wins four games that disqualifies their quarterback from "having one of the best seasons ever".

Except Josh Allen, which is going to be the comparison we see microwaved up every time Justin Fields creates four turnovers in a game.

I'm not going to harp on this as much because I want to enjoy this season and I really actually hope Fields plays well, but if you are already lobbying that Bears need to give thirty-four more starts to Fields before they know what they have you're already making a tacit admission that this isn't going to be pretty.
Josh Allen had an organization that went all out for him. This offense was shopping at the Salvation Army

Statistics disagree. Also your takes and stances have been historically bad lately.
Actually not even! Dont believe me? Deshaun Watson 2020 Splits | Pro-Football-Reference.com

He just racked up those sweet, sweet garbage time numbers. His yards per attempt in the first quarter? 7.6 (funnily enough that's a number identical to Mr. Mitchell Trubisky). In the fourth quarter? 10.75. He also threw thirteen touchdowns in garbage time fourth quarters, the same number as he threw in the first and second quarters combined.

So yeah, I dont know. A nice season? I guess you could say that, about as nice as a season could for a team that bad. But one of the best ever? Lmao.

From a performance standpoint, it absolutely was. Wins aren't a QB stat but if you want to continue to be Mike North, go right ahead.
Would you say touchdowns, completion percentage and passing yards per attempt are quarterback stats though? Because all of those are significantly worse for him when the Texans were tied or leading than when they were losing.

PFF disagrees

They are QB stats but im not going to play the "these stats only count during this very specific time" game. At one point that season Watson had the highest career QB rating of all time. The guy had a garbage OL, no #1 WR, zero defensive help and somehow still managed to rack up #s without turning the ball over at a high rate in situations where teams know you're throwing. Does the term "pinning their ears back" ring a bell?

PFF said his season was the best in 15 years. That covers the golden age of QBing, or most of it at least.

Does "taking their foot off the gas" or "resting starters" ring a bell? We can play this game all day. If it was such a great season and Watson was such a force the Texans manage more than four wins. All this statistical output in meaningful, close games would result in wins...unless it was coming at a time when the games were already decided.

PFF and their contracted out South Asian "graders" (who know more about cricket than they do about football) can say whatever they want. Doesn't change that simple reality.

FYI his numbers when leading and behind were both really good. Leading and tied was pretty limited sample considering how awful that team was though.

Tell ya what though, if Justin Fields can start sixteen games and have as few as fifteen turnovers (INT + all fumbles) all year I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for another season. No matter how few games the Bears win. No matter what else he does statistically, good or bad. It would be a minor miracle if Fields were to go from verfiable turnover machine to averaging less than one per game.
