Didn't listen to it but if its anything like every other presser its because Flus gave no real answer. I like that the beat has been pushing these guys to answer things. I would rather them ask the same thing 5-10 times over acquiescing to their stubbornness.
.. I'm def the opposite. I hate when it gets cringy, it's not supposed to be an interrogation (as far as not answering certain questions). End of the day I just want to learn more about how the team is progressing schematically and what the plan is with the players that are available.

As a fan those dudes (coaches/players) don't owe me anything. And I'm fine with keeping anything close-vested if it equates to wins and real progress in some way. I think they've been plenty open and honest given the circumstances.

My two takeaways from listening to Flus:

1: He’s annoyed at Quan.
2: He’s moving on.

Listened to both the OL.

1: Both seem like extremely likeable and hardworking men.
2: I don’t expect us to see videos of them with PornHub ho’s at any point.

So pff has him with the most run stops but has him rated terribly against the run? Is a run stop just a tackle on a run? Because that means basically nothing if so. Bears have been bad against the run and consistently trailing so they get run on a lot. Most of those other guys are on teams less likely to be playing from behind consistently

No a run stop means tackling a guy on a play that would be deemed a failure for the O. So if it is 3rd and 2 and you tackle a guy after 1 yard. It makes sense Quan would led the NFL as he is at the top of the NFL in tackles for loss which would all be run stops since a TFL means the O had to fail on that play.

If you wanted to calculate his run stop % ie run stops over run snaps then he would still rank 3rd just behind Parsons and Campbell this year. He still would come out on top the past 2 years.

In addition he still led the NFL in combined stops ie run or pass with 93.

Potsie is the best Bears beat because he actually asks the hard questions. And he’s a sarcastic smart ass which I love.

He def adds something to the room.. only reason I noticed-noticed was because he asked the same thing 3x... I would've been pissed if I was another reporter that didn't get a chance at questioning (does everyone present get at least one question? Is that how it works?).

You cant pick and choose what PFF stats to use for your narrative.

How did PFF have all of them ranked in overall grades and run defense? Its not favorable to Ro either

You are confused. Stats are different than grades. Their grades are highly subjective and are on a 2 to -2 scale. Their stats are less subjective.

People shit on the PFF grades hence why I am using their actual stats instead as less subjective.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
I think economics say otherwise. No sensible reason for him to risk playing out the season under a $9.7M option year. The Bears almost certainly have a Leonard-like contract offer on the table, with maybe $50m guaranteed over 5yrs, and likely double that if it runs to completion. That's generational wealth territory. In the end, he'll take some modification of the Bears' current offer, and pass on rolling the dice with an option year. There's just too much money involved to do that...
Maybe? It all comes down to what the Bears offer actually is, and how far off it is from Smith's expectations. Poles seems to think it was more than fair and Smith apparently thinks it was insulting.

And this is exhibit A for why it’s not always good to follow the crowd and do what’s always done. (Paying more just because a player is “next”.)
I think that contact will bite them in the ass.
Was Murray always considered a top QB during the season, especially since he seemed to disappear during the second halves of seasons?

Did Smith disappear once he got on the field during seasons?

Murray was never consistent enough to say that he deserved top QB money. Smith was consistent enough to say that he deserved top LB money. Now people are scared to pay him because he is going to be in a new system where it should be much easier for him to shine.

I understand that people like Haynesworth hurt their (new) team because he went from a 4-3 to a 3-4 where he was forced to do something that he hadn't done before and he failed, but the new position that he was forced to play was not a position to shine but rather a position to allow others to shine and he refused to do it.

Smith is being moved from a support position (ILBer in a 3-4) to a shine position in a Lovie-ish 4-3 scheme (Will).

My hot take is, if he is signs a new contract (who knows what happens motivation-wise if he is forced to play out his 5th year without a contract?), Smith will play at a top 5 level AND will outplay Leonard because:
1. Leonard is recovering from back surgery and it seems he will miss some time during the start of the season.
2. Leonard will move from the shine position of Will to the support position of Mike. His numbers will go down.
3. While Darius Leonard has shown Top LBer traits, Shaquille Leonard has never even had one tackle in the NFL.

Changing position and changing his name in one offseason while recovering from back surgery will allow Roquan Smith to rip the Top LBer Award away from Leonard's hands.

Exactly. You have people claiming others are better but the stats say otherwise.

It is laughable to claim Campbell for example is better. Quan's stats shit all over that dude. Period.

Like by this logic I can say Poles is the worst GM in NFL. Why? Because I said so. No need to offer any evidence to support my position apparently. All I need to do is question it and that is enough to make it true.

I don’t think people have a problem paying him.

I think wants to get PAID…. Like over paid. Like WR money.

We shall see

People need to understand that his position in the new scheme is one of the 3 prime positions in the new scheme.

That might be worth a bit more (I am not saying how much) to the Bears over other teams.

The guys I think are debatable are Fred Warner, demario Davis, lavonte David, Devin white, Leonard, and Bobby Wagner (although he's probably past his prime and not quite that level anymore), and Micah parsons. I don't have time to look up stats right now. Roquan is elite in coverage, but his run stopping will be put to the test with mediocre DTs in front of him this year. Also his inability to cause fumbles with his immense tackle numbers is pretty shocking
That is why Charles Tillman was specifically brought in to teach the defense the Peanut Punch.

Hopefully, it was taught to the whole team because the Peanut Punch could be used on special teams and when the offense has to play defense on turnovers.

Schefter parroting the team position again.

Loved what Poles has done thus far but he is getting dangerously close to fucking it all up by potentially being too stubborn. When the numbers finally come out it better be the case Quan was asking for 22m or more.

I mean....if quan is gonna go to the rapsheet to leak his displeasure, only makes sense to use Schefty to voice your displeasure if you're poles.

I don't like how this situation is looking. Turning into an NBA drama filled negotiation.

Who cares? Teams do this all the time. Just like roquan used Rappaport.

Id like to speak to whoever is controlling the tunes at practice and ask why its the same 10 songs on repeat.
I was just thinking that I would not be enjoying training camp because of the music.

Sure but if Quan is taking things too personal then not sure how Poles and Flus aren't as well. This is turning acrimonious and Poles and Flus fanning the flames instead of remaining level headed.

Who cares? Teams do this all the time. Just like roquan used Rappaport.

Again my point was this is starting to feel personal for Poles and Flus after they just chastised Quan for making it personal. Professionals de-escalate not escalate.

I'm really on the fence about the Roquan situation, but I detest Schefter.
