I watch a ton of TCU football. Johnston is explosive and long. He has not benefited from playing with a decent QB yet he has some eye popping tape. This year will be interesting. He absolutely torched Oklahoma last year but was nonexistent against Oklahoma St.

It’s too bad Zach Evans transferred or TCU might have had two first rounders in 2023.

Thanks for that perspective. I barely watch college football at all, and when I do, it's usually big SEC games. So I love when people chime in with specific viewpoints. I don't think I've watched a single TCU game in my life.

Fields survived playing in former coach Matt Nagy’s dysfunctional offense — it’s a credit to him that he made it out of that game against the Browns intact and didn’t let it sink him mentally — and is now in a scheme that is customized to his strengths under offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. That should clear the way for him to show what he can do.

‘‘I felt like I had to be a certain type of quarterback rather than play my game,’’ Fields said of last season. ‘‘I felt like I was trying to be a little bit robotic, whereas Luke tries to follow some rules, but . . . you have to feel it out. You have to be a player on the field. You can’t really overthink on the field. That’s my biggest mindset change from last year to this year: Just get the job done.’’

It might be too soon to say if it affected him mentally. I think we'll find out this season, starting Saturday.
