I've read the trilogy. They're pretty easy reads and a lot better than I thought they were going to be. I kinda expected something g along the lines of the Twilight books. Thankfully they are a lot better...

Yeah, the reading is easy -- but the story kinda sucks you in - hah.

I've been on a slight sabbatical from reading recently. But I think I'm going to start on this in the next few days:

I'm almost done with Recoltes et Semailles by Alexander Grothendieck

It's taking me longer than I expected, because I'm going back and fourth between a translation and the original to ensure the accuracies. One of the most cryptic books I have ever read.

Currently trying to read mein kampf. I say trying because its boring as **** and not quite the interesting insight to the mind of a diabolical dictator that I thought.

Just finished Enders Game.

It was assigned to my high school age son so I thought I would read it too. I enjoyed it.

I am re-reading World War Z for funzies... need to order a new book to start on, I just finished my backlog of Warhammer 40k novels.

Was thinking of buying the A Song of Fire and Ice books and starting on those and/or buying The Hunger Games books and starting on those.

The Hunger Games were okay. But I couldn't enjoy the book all that much, mainly because I loved The Running Man by Bachmann(Steven King alias). And they are very similar. The same goes for Harry Potter(blatant ripoff of The Worst Witch) and whatever my niece was reading, I forgot the name but it's all the rage among 'young adult' now, that reminded me of nearly a complete rip-off of Valis by PKD.

Hunger Games reminds me of The Long Walk by King/Bachman.

The only thing it really has in common with The Long Walk is that it has kids as the competitors. It’s sort of a mash-up between The Long Walk and The Running Man.

So neither answer is wrong.

Bingo. They are not original.

I don't take issue in people liking these knockoff books. But I do take issue with the popularity of books that are pretty much ripping off others(in bulk) and the only reason they are successful, is due to the new book being targeted towards young adults.

Hey, if you're 16 and love these ripoffs because the original was written for adults, that's cool. But don't let the teenager that has read enough books on their own that they can finally count them with their fingers, sway a mature reader into falling for the same market trap. I call these books, pedo-mom books. Potter/Twilight/Hunger Games/Divergent and so on. Just a flavor of the month trend that was set by kids. Why I see it as an annoyance, is because these basic books will supersede other amazing books, and a lot of great writings go forgotten for no reason.

Finished the 3rd Hunger Games book last night.

I was disappointed in the ending. :(

Started on the Divergent Trilogy today.
