Yeah, I have a hard time imagining him as a Cub next season, but I also don't think they can void his contract successfully and they also won't just eat $18MM or whatever he makes next season.

although it would be nice to get back zambrano because he's a solid rotation guy and the cubs need one..

we need to cut our losses and move on...his contract is a big elephant in the room...he's aging....his attitude is more dominating than his game

not to mention,in this case, does it really look good if we take him back?

Considering that the media and most Cubs fans hate Zambrano, I don't think it necessarily looks good. But if he does well enough they probably won't care as much.

I'm a Z fan and I wouldn't mind him pitching out his contract as a Cub. I also think it would be fine if he were released or traded so he could pitch elsewhere.

If the Cubs take him back, then I have no hope for them in the future.

I bet he's back.

I do too... I think Hendry pulled off a miracle to get rid of Bradley, but it only created another negative situation at the beginning of this season. I think Zambo is even more untradeable than Bradley was...and they won't pay him to sit on his ass all year. Even Silva got up and made it to the Yankees AAA team.

Why? It's not like he is any less of a pitcher because of this. He'd still be a solid 3 for this rotation. My guess is that it is up to the next GM.

At this point, his on-field production is a moot point. He's a cancer in the clubhouse because of his behavior and his actions serve as a distraction to the team. Time to cut ties with him and move on.

So you'll have no hope for the team because they have a club house cancer? That is pretty stupid, if you ask me. Just because you have a club house cancer doesn't mean you can't win. Plenty of teams have won with a negative nancy on the team.

So that means he isn't an effective pitcher?
No I was making a statement of fact, he has declined since 2008. He may be a serviceable 3 starter, time missed between injury, and his meltdowns make him lose a ton of value.

His point isn't completely wrong. Baseball unlike any of the other big team sports requires the least amount of chemistry and other intagibles, imo. That is because the game is mostly made up of individual matchups in the context of a team game. There are plenty of examples of terrible but talent people being apart of winning teams.

That said, the leadership structure in Chicago is not strong enough to stand up to the scrunity of dealing with this type of individual when they are producing at a middle of the rotation starter level or worse. As I said earlier, the reason this time was the last straw probably has as much to do with his culumative actions as his on the field performance.

They do have to weigh whether what value Zambrano can provide in relation to his contract is better than what value another pitcher can provide at a potentially lower (or league minimum) salary given where the team is planning to go next season. If they want to contend, it might be a toss-up because the contract isn't exactly peanuts and Z isn't terrible yet, but at the same time, even if the numbers don't care about chemistry and heart and crap, GMs do and they'll have to look at that.

I think they'd probably either trade or release Z and he'll go somewhere else. It's a sunk cost and they might just want to start fresh.
