Bottom line, he's not a team player. A guy who destroys Gatorade machines and fights with his own teammates when things don't go his way is not a valuable member of any team regardless of his on-field performance. He's shown consistently that he simply can't control his temper and keep his emotions in check. He's immature and the fact that he walked out on his teammates because of his poor outing recently is the long overdue straw to break the camel's back.

And if he was pitching at the level as he was at 05-07 then this team would and should be living with that behavior. Plenty of teams, and teams that were wining teams, did just that, but when you are struggling to be an average pitcher you can't get away with being a headcase.

CO, I know you won't give a shit about this because it is ERA, but a 4.82 ERA isn't even average and can be replaced relatively easily. He has better stuff than most potential replacements, but as long as the numbers are there for somebody else, it really doesn't matter.

What is that supposed to mean? You really don't believe that cancers have won? Ty Cobb won 3 pennants. Barry Bonds, the biggest cancer ever even won a pennant. Roger Clemens. A-Rod. The list goes on.

Yeah, but they were kind of way better than Carlos Zambrano...and I do love Z as a player, but seriously, he just isn't that good.

I'm ready for Zambrano to be gone. He hasn't pitched his value in his contract, and has been away from the rotation more the last two years than he's been in it.

If the Cubs were to actually pay the players based upon actual worth/ performance, it would be peanuts. No one on that entire team would be getting more than 7 million dollars. And that's for Garza.

If he comes back, his contract needs to be voided since he just walked out on it to begin with, so have him as a number 3 or 4 for like 6 million.

**** that 16 or whatever the hell it is that he's supposed to get.

And while we're at it, give Fonzie and Ramirez the 45 cents they're worth.

Zambrano is a headcase, not a cancer. Milton Bradley was more of a cancer to the team.

That being said, why not bring up WS titles in your argument?

He was doing an Obama facepalm :obama: because of the fact that you don't seem to care about him being a nutcase at all.

And he isn't even really average anymore.

Sorry, none of them ever did anything compared to what this jackass does. They didn't fight teammates, walk out on them or destroy things because they can't control their temper.

I played baseball for 14 years and trust me, although you don't need the same chemistry that a football or basketball team might have, a guy like this will do more harm than good in the clubhouse. I believe most current or former baseball players will tell you that. If they don't, they're lying or don't care about the team.

Yeah...Z's got an 82 ERA+ and his FIP kinda blows. He wasn't having a good season at all and while he's young enough to have a bounceback, you look at the past few seasons and see that his production time has dropped (part due to the Cubs, mostly because he just can't get deep into games anymore) and you can see why it's no longer worth it to keep him around.

I don't for a second think that that is his true talent level. Yes, I do think he is getting worse, but I still think he can put a decent ERA around 4 or so. The key is his K's, if he can K 8 per 9, I think he'll be fine. However, his FB has lost a lot of velocity and I don't really think he can get that back, but I think that if someone works with him, he has good enough stuff to get by.

So you'll have no hope for the team because they have a club house cancer? That is pretty stupid, if you ask me. Just because you have a club house cancer doesn't mean you can't win. Plenty of teams have won with a negative nancy on the team.

I agree completely. Hell, half of Boston's '04 team was full of "cancers"...

The difference was that Ortiz and Manny were MVPs.

Zambrano is scraping as a 3rd starter the last 2+ years.

The Red Sox won in '04 because they were loaded with talent. zambrano is not loaded with talent. The Sox were an anomaly. They won despite the attitudes of the players. All that said, that's not the right way to assemble a baseball team. Another reason why I sincerely dislike Boston. You want a consistent winner/contender, you bring in talented guys who want to win and aren't going to be a distraction or a problem for your organization.
