Healthy???

Who Morrow and Darvish????

Not sure who else they missed at the end of the year because of health issues that could of made a difference

Bryant and Strop's time missed didn't help much. That could have kept them out of the game with the Brewers and then wild card game.

They lack a proven lead off and a closer type. Until they take that serious this team is not contending for anything

#2 OBP in baseball from the leadoff spot and #4 OPS. #6 save percentage with a bottom third in total number of blown saves. So, I still say getting healthy and performing up to expectations will make them contenders. Both big ifs, but still true.

Wonder if the cubs tried to package something for Cano and Diaz?

Dont care much for Cano contract but getting Diaz would be worth it
Yeah, lets pick up a massive contract or a 36 year old player that can stay well and probably will be a DH in a year. Good strat

Some things can't be quantified. A chunk of it came from Rizzo at the top but you lost his RBI presence lower.

The way I see it is 2015-16 they had a legit lead off and got into the championship series. playing over their heads then won it all. Then let him go and got worse every year.

So I see it as the #1 priority as being replacing Fowler finally. #2 adding a pitcher with closing experience. A back up catcher would be #3.

Almora has to hit .320 to prove useful and that is asking alot. Happ struck out far too much and forgot how to hit right handed.

Over all they have to have a legit answer here. I'm okay with signing Brantley then flipping Schwarber or testing him in RF and platooning CF.

Just the way I see it right now.

He has arguably the best arm any 2B has ever possessed. Even then the bat projects fine at 1B. Cano would be a upgrade on the Cubs to 3/4 of the line up right now.

Rizzo was awesome in the leadoff spot but Almora was pretty good in his 200+ PA he did post a .360+ OBP. And they can also use Zobrist at lead off. Having Brantley wouldn't make me mad either, but I'd think if you were going to go the route of trading off a couple of the outfield guys, you might as well look at the Harper angle. But short of a miracle, I know Harper ain't happening.

One of the things about Joe, who knows more than I ever will about baseball, is his lack of consistency in a line up. I think a good number of guys would do well in knowing they have a spot in the line up and on the field day in and out.

Only way Harper comes over is if a GM takes Heyward for a prospect and no cash. Even then you would have to move more cash out.

I dont think the comparison ever was about Getting Cano here, it was if someone will take Cano and 125 for his 36-40 seasons, then someone would take Heyward.

Cubs would have to eat 1/2 the deal if they did it today. They are better doing this next year

re: this cano talk think people are being a bit unrealistic here... aside from the fact that taking on Cano's massive contract is an issue, the word is the Mets are also sending over Jarred Kelenic who was the #6 pick in the most recent draft and Justin Dunn who's basically a similar level prospect to Amaya/Ademan/Alzolay. It's not like they are getting Diaz cheap

Only way the Cubs can force a Heyward deal like this is with Baez, Hendricks or Contreras involved

Whitesox traded for Colome

Mariners looking to lose 100 games

Feel bad for Felix Hernandez as far as going through all these losing years there...
