The Yankees are acquiring first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger from the Cubs, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Cubs also send cash to the Yanks and receive right-hander Cody Poteet. Per Jack Curry of YES Network, it’s $5MM going to the Yankees. Per Jesse Rogers of ESPN, that’ll be $2.5MM this year and $2.5MM next year. The second $2.5MM will go towards either his buyout or his 2026 salary, depending on his opt-out decision, per Passan. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Bellinger has been told he’ll be playing center field for the Yanks.

Thank you for that. They can cut the return for all I care. 2.5M this year and next. That is far better than expected

25M freed up. I expect at least 2 deals soon.

Luzardo trade and a F/A signing. Yates has been the sexy ***** on the corner that Jed has been eyeing

Better reallocate that money on much more than Yates and luzzardo. Luzzardo isn't really worth triantos. I'd rather give up a bigger package for pitchers that have actually been good like Cease or Castillo. Or sign Flaherty or someone with a track record of success.

You are a bit wrong on Luzardo being not worth Triantos. Triantos is a single machine. .289/.349/.417 over his 1317 PA and 24 HR total.

I feel that he is vastly over rated as a prospect.

Luzardo put up a 4.0 WAR in 2023. 24 he was injured.

So if you are saying aim higher sure. But he is worth Triantos.

I personally believe that Jed is cleaning up loose ends. Thiass just got flipped. That clears a roster spot. So the next move most likely is a +1 roster add.

Either a f/a like Yates or Luzardo. I am fine with either. Luzardo maybe more as he is 10 years younger with 2 years of control and good velocity. Crochet lite was a comp for him and that plays in the rotation or high leverage.

I am fine if Brown wins the front half of 25 and has a innings cap. Then Horton comes in for the 2nd half and we are sitting with Hodge, Brown and Luzardo in the 7-9.

3B is also another spot of interest

They took Cage Workman in rule V. He is a LH hitting 3B and would have to be returned if he doesn't make the 26 man. I think he might end up a option for a corner IF option. 110 SB and 57 HR in 1800 PA in the minors. So he is interesting as a bench player.

Cowles is a RH counter part. 1200 PA. 57 SB and 30 HR. He is more of a traditional UI and has plus speed

Add Shaw as the main 3B and those 2 as bench players it gives some flexibility for Nico starting up late.

So I am leaning towards adding to pitching. I really want to see Shaw given a full run to develop

I would just go big on Tanner Scott at this point.

Duh......unless these players are intentionally trying to injure themselves, then all injuries are accidents. I count 7 injuries as a Cub plus Tommy John surgery in the minors. But no, he's not "injury material". LOL Another great call. Mr. Baseball.

You must be the dullest tool in the shed.

I'm guessing the only injury that you have had is from lifting your fork to your mouth.

Steele is not a injury waiting to happen. Easy mechanic and not max effort. Injury came when fielding a ball vs in a throwing mechanic.

Huge difference. But it might be over your pay grade. Then again advancing to leggos from Lincoln logs was too.

Hey dumb dick....he had TJ on his elbow in 2017, the same elbow that has put him on the shelf multiple times over the last few years. So it's reccuring Mr. Baseball.....it's not waiting to happen, it's already happening. And I love the cheap shots coming from a fucking mailman whose only injury is a case of athlete's foot.

Pitcher injuries are up all over the league in the last decade. It’s not unique to the Cubs.

Picture injuries are up all over the league in the last decade. It’s not unique to the Cubs.

Red flags are related to throwing mechanics. UCL, Rotators. Stuff related to throwing.

Wicks had 2 oblique injuries and those suck. Most likely related to his wind up and creating torque. Could be a mechanic issue. So I can see why Jed is not giving him a rotation slot.

Brown neck stress fracture. To date this injury has been vague and pretty unique to him. He has been cleared for normal activities and has plenty of time to work up

Justin was on a podcast recently and did talk about injuries a little bit. He said last year there was a lot of injuries because of the delay in signing of free agents and a lot of players didn't know where they were going. And he said that that led to a lot of injuries because it was more of a rush to get ready and not following their normal routines.

So this year with a lot of roadblock signing early like Soto has really been pushed in the market faster and hopefully it'll help out.

So how do most of you feel about Sammy apologize into the fans and being invited to the Cubs convention?

X pretty much lit up with Sammy Sosa stuff right after. Personally I grew up watching them he was the face of the team during that era. I don't think he belongs to the Hall of Fame but he sure does belong in the Cubs Hall

I couldn’t care less. If he comes back to the organization, fine. If he doesn’t fine. But once this news of the reconnection is passed, I hope to God not to keep hearing about him.
