Is it dumb that i really hope the cubs keep Alcantara solely because they are such a bland fucking team of personalities and he actually seems to have some zest to him?

Na. I am not against him being a 4th OF.

I would rather trade him if there is a strong return. Pablo Lopez has been tossed around and I am not against tossing excess depth to aquire.

Twins want to drop around 20M and Lopez is at 21M. He slots as the two and has 3 years of control. Good K/9 and BB/9. Will give up a HR but with a low BB/9 that is not a bad trade off

So Lopez for Alcantara and Birdsell. That takes up 1/2 of the payroll flex. Then sign Yoan Moncada to a minor league deal. He would add some depth to 3B. That leaves around 10M for a pen arm. Tanner Scott would be my top target

I would not trade Caissie at this point. If they get a deal done with Tucker prior to the deadline then all bets are off

How many would be mad if Jed just extends Tucker and stays inhouse.

I find it unlikely but extending Tucker lowers pressure to win now and allows Shaw to develop into a MLB 3B while Brown and Horton can push for a rotation spot.

I think the chances are pretty good that they take the NLC regardless. Getting past the Dodgers will most likely take Shaw putting up a rookie of the year and over performance by the staff.

Or going over tax as there are a few holes going on that will cost talent and payroll to plug

I personally feel that Jed should just offer 10/400 with 100M deferred then center a deal around Caissie to bring in a SP. That would put payroll around 230M.

This allows Jed to push Wicks, Brown and Horton into the pen with Hodge, Miller and Pearson. I would cut ties with Killian. He is out of options and has not established. Should be another teams issue.

OF Alcantara as a 4th. Let Suzuki full time DH

IF I see little upgrade to Vasquez and Maestro. If someone flat out beats them in ST for a back up then cool. I would rather be rid of controversy and go in with Shaw as the 3B and let him adjust.

Jed made his bed by trading today's and the long term 3B option. Just let him know that he will get the job and just be himself and see how he adjust.

To date his adjustment to talent has been fast. AA was his first big leap and he had a hick up then went back to wrecking pitching.

I can see Apr being a decent month as pitching has to figure him. Then May a struggle. June he adjusts back and gets hot

He is the best pure hitter that I have seen...shoot maybe sense Grace came up.

Weird. Burnes signs with Azl. They were already 1 SP over. No one expected that deal. I do see them pushing Montgomery pretty hard now. Hard pass.

Pfaadt would a good trade target for a low cost flip.

I rather like the Brujan swap. Obviously some of that is contingent on Brujan developing a bit more but he's hit well at AAA and most of the underlying numbers look ok. His iso has tanked in majors which seems to be his main issue. I haven't really dug into why but my guess is he's a groundball heavy profile and likely needs to add loft to his swing.

Having said that, he's a switch hitter who can play all over the field with decent defense. Really decent utility guy if he can hit more. Also has decent base running.

I just saw that Mervis was traded and coming in to say someone needs to check on @CSF77, but it looks like he beat us to the story.

Thoughts and prayers!!

Ya I didn't even look at the return. All I was thinking was finally opening a wasted 40 man spot.

More concerned about a late inning lefty. Adding another UI to the dog pile is all cool and shit. But the fact that Assad is a rotation arm and Zas-not-nasty and the garbage NYY return. Then add in the injury couple of Gone-son and Bad-weather.

Ya Jed had better priorities then a dog pile add on to the burning trash bin.

Teams have gone away from lefty specialist with the 3 batter rule. Righty or lefty they look for who gets people out. Its always nice to have a lety, but its not the necessity it was before the rule where you could match up batter for batter.

It's more about keeping teams from stacking left-handed hitters on a right handed starter. Having a high leverage lefty that they can bring in to disrupt that is viable.

As of right now the only guy they have that I personally would trust in that scenario is Steele.

Yawn. He was a lot of people's guy 3 years ago.

Keep on faping that.
Oh get the heck out!

You had him as the next Babe Ruth and nobody, and I mean nobody, else here expected much of anything from him. He was never one of the Cubs top prospects ever and you acted like he was gonna be a Hall of Famer.

Yet again. Quit fapping about Mervis. Swear 3 year old news and you are trying to make it sound like it was yesterday that I was humping his ass at night.

Lol too much.

Anyways looks like Jed is sniffing up Josh Rojas with the rest of the suiters. I did a quick peak. Meh and why is all I was thinking. No power. .685 career OPS. Christ just move on from spending payroll on non upgrades to what is on the roster.

Experienced trash is the same as non experienced trash. Just pricier.

Jed is infamous for spending too much for 0 WAR talent. If you get 0 WAR from league min you are not losing. So spend on substantial WAR and allow the 0 WAR filler be league min and easily moved up and down for flexible roster construction.

Jed for a smart man can be just a dolt.

Agent Joel Wolfe on why Sasaki wants to come over: "He's a guy that wants to be great. He's not coming here just to be rich...He wants to be one of the greatest, ever. I see that now. And he's articulated it. To be that, he knows he has to challenge heimself."

Joel Wolfe says the WBC experience and then "seeing (Shota) Imanaga come over and dominate at such a level in the first half, I believe he realized...in order to take it to the next level he had to come here, play against the best players in the world every day and tap into all the resources that MLB teams have to help him become one of the best pitchers in MLB. That's what he wants."

So I feel that really hurts the Dodgers. It puts the Cubs into the mix much heavier as he is pointing directly to a situation that he wants to see happen to himself

I am to the point of feeling better about the Cubs getting him.

That said Busch was not bad last year. For a first full season. D got better.

I guess I am the type to fap more if they crush 30HR at a power position.

Kinda why I am meh on Nico. Great glove but 10HR power and okay on base skills is not a reason to fap over.

The disappointing thing to me about hoerner isn't that he doesn't hit homers. It's that he doesn't really hit for extra bases which you would kind of expect with his plus speed. A career .103 ISO isn't really cutting it in my eyes. Not saying he has to be a .200 iso guy but i'd like to at least see .150 because his profile really limits his value as a hitter since he's also below average in terms of walks.
