He has a point and besides, musicians just play they don't do anything else.

They write the songs too, but you are right, the producers makes all of the decisions. Did you know that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana was supposed to be played by a brass band, but the producer wanted more of a "grunge" sound so he substituted a stripped down, 3 piece outfit of guitar, bass, and drums.

The exact opposite was true of Lawrence Welk. He wanted that sound that we call grunge now, but his producer thought he should go big band.

Imagine how much music history would have been changed if it weren't for these producers standing in the way of musicians' ideas for how their music should sound...

FACT: 'Love, love me do' was originally 'Love, love me you silly wanker' before a producer got hold of it.

Not all the songs are written by the musicians

producers DO make all the decisions

McCartney almost stopped Ferris Bueller from being made cause he didn't like Twist and Shout being played by a marching band.

I did not know that!

This was interesting though - Kraftwerk, the legendary German techno outfit was originally a German bluegrass band until producers stepped in with synthesizers and drum machines. They even made the band fire their principal banjo player. They kept the guy who played the jug because his sound added value to certain beats.
