Considering gators are most active from dusk to dawn, do you not think this movie on the beach set up was kind of a bad idea, and perhaps gave visitors a false sense of security, contributing to the perfect storm?

The sign debate is moot. Neither can provide evidence either way. I do bet the signs will be changed though.

I am not a litigation fan, nor am I a fan of shifting responsibility. I don't care if this goes to court, or a settlement is reached. It's not important to me in the least. I am also not a fan of crucifying these parents. Learn from their mistake, but why rake them over the coals.

I look at it as a tragedy. If Disney changes nothing, it likely will be another 50 years or more before something like this happens again. Signs may not make a difference at all. But I bet they will be changed, and the movies on the beach will be on a grassy knoll in the future.
Movies at dusk is definitely a bad idea, can't argue there. Still think letting a 2 year old play in a lagoon is worse. The signs are being changed, that's already been reported.

Disney World has been open how many years? How many attacks have happened? It was a freak thing that probably will never happen again because it didnt happen before.

I've already stated both of these points.

Hawk, you keep avoiding the question. If the parents were right with their kid in the water, how did the kid get fucking snatched?

It's no different when a parent on a busy sidewalk and sometimes you see an idiot parent who has the kid walking on the edge of the sidewalk so if the kid runs off or if a car were to veer on to the sidewalk, the kid is the one that gets hit first. It's fucking stupid. You walk on a sidewalk with the parent on the side of incoming traffic.

When you are on the water, you ensure you are on the side of the deep water. Clearly this couldn't be the case because then the alligator wouldn't have been able to bypass the adult and snatch the kid.

There is no conclusive evidence they were watching a movie but there is evidence. The evidence being their kid got snatched while it has been reported that the family was enjoying movie night.

Like I said. There is no evidence that the parents were watching a movie while their kid was playing at the shore. None whatsoever. As for me avoiding your question as far as the parents being right even though their kid was snatched, I do not know if the parents were right or wrong because not enough is known about what exactly went down there. I am simply not going to blame the father because his kid was snatched. I just do not know.

How would you know the Middle East is a war zone, if you are from Nebraska?

You just keep saying dumber and dumber things.

I will blame the father. I raised 3 girls and you don't let a 2 year old play in the water without holding their hand.

I research a lot about any place I travel to. I would hope most do the same. I agree, people need to educate themselves more. I think a sign like the one I post below (which is the Hyatt signs up the road) could have made a difference. Could have. Neither of us really knows. I guarantee there will be different signs there in the future though.

This was a freak tragedy. A perfect storm as I said. A 2 year old is dead. The parents will suffer more than we can imagine, and will pay for this for the rest of their lives. Disney will make changes.

I feel for these people. I hate playing the blame game in these situations, but there is much that can be learned from a tragedy like this.

Good post. I think that proper signage like you showed would be helpful. A golf course that has gator and other animals with access to it is a perfect example. I've golfed in places that had them and seeing a sign like the above would properly warn me about reaching into the water to lets say retrieve my golf ball. Same thing in Mexico when I played down there where poisonous snakes were prevalent everywhere and you didn't dare leave the fairway.

That's not communication that you are doing. It is just being a fool.
