If they played, I think it would be a good game. Alabama might be better but it's close. SMU is more deserving though.

Boise State almost beat Oregon way back in Week 2 at Oregon. They were winning 34-27 in the 4th quarter and allowed a kick return for a TD. Then lost on a FG at the gun.

This is not some dominant Alabama team. They should have 4 losses. I don’t know if SMU beats them but Bama does not deserve the benefit of doubt. I think Tennessee’s defense shuts down SMU but this is not a good Bama defense.

They still have to play Navy but I would definitely give it to them over Bama. Dont think they jump over ASU as 5th highest seeded conference winner.

Yeah it’s an odd quirk of NCAA scheduling that the bracket comes out before Army is even done with their season. They have zero chance, but they really should have a little bit of a shot. If losing to NIU isn’t debilitating to ND, or losing to Ohio State doesn’t eliminate IU, then Army should at least be in the conversation with multi-loss teams.

Cam Skattebo sucked the will out of them.

It’s not that losing to NIU isn’t necessarily debilitating to ND; the committee has repeatedly said the manner in which teams win can matter more. If ND ripped off a bunch of close/lucky wins after that debacle, they wouldn’t be ranked in the top 12(like FSU last year). I believe their scoring margin is something like +320 which has impressed the committee. Now one could argue none of their opponents are against elite teams(because none are elite or even close to it), but I think 9 are bowl eligible.
