"I thought both Russ and Justin showed promise in certain stretches during the season, and I think they're both capable of being starters in this league," Rooney said. "So we have decisions, and they have decisions, too."

.............

Rooney said the organization will look at the ages of both quarterbacks. Wilson is 36, while Fields is a decade younger.

"I think you have to take that into consideration," Rooney said. "That's a factor."

One thing to keep in mind - both Tomlin (a couple of weeks ago) and now Rooney have floated the idea of drafting a QB in the next couple of years. Tomlin said you need to draft early to get a franchise QB, and pointed out how Baltimore got Jackson at the end of the first round, etc. And now Rooney is saying that it's possible that the Steelers could draft a QB this year or next.

If you read tea leaves, it sounds like they'll go with Wilson and have him groom the next QB they draft.

An aging Russell Wilson helping groom Quinn Ewers.

Good luck.

The story was Fields wanted to be traded to Pittsburgh, we'll see if there's a re-write.

The year there should have been good for him - Tomlin's got a ceiling but that dude is gonna win ten games a year no matter what and seeing how Russ prepared could absolutely be a benefit to a young QB.

Cleveland, Vegas, NYG, Indy and a few other teams desperately need a QB. Darnold is the clear first FA QB but he's clearly a better option over Kirk who's physically incapable.

With Arthur Smith im heavily guessing they will take Jalen Milroe.

Who is the worst passer by a large margin in this draft

I think they have to at this point. Too many years of Mason Rudolph's since Roethlisberger retired, and it's kind of wasted a pretty good defensive lineup even though they still make the postseason.

But that’s the whole point. They are in a position where all they’re going to get is another Mason Rudolph.

I can’t say I know much about this QB class but I have seen multiple people say the best QB this year would be 6 or 7 last year.

If I were them I would take Fields for two years. Russ isn’t winning shit. And if Fields does bomb well that gets you a better pick in maybe a better QB class.

But knowing the Steelers they’ll keep Russ and keep treading water

I think Fields fits best in Indy of all the possibilities. Him and Taylor and that OL would really stress some run defenses, spreading them out and making good tackling necessary to stop big plays.

Their WR core is strong too. Downs, Pittman, Pierce and Mitchell are all pretty good.

Richardson is too raw, inaccurate and injury prone for them to rely on and their GM/Coach are in a make it or break it year.

The QB market in FA is going to be interesting this year.

Looks like Monken is going back to the Ravens and getting a contract extension.

I say that, because I think if Monken ever gets a head coaching gig where they don't have a prospective QB on the roster and aren't in a position to get a franchise QB in the draft right away, it would make sense for him to go after Fields as a QB and put Fields in a system where he can be "Lamar Jackson Jr" as they have similar skillsets.

If anyone were to be able to unlock Fields and take him to a higher level, I think it would be a guy like Monken.

I would love to see a team lean into what Fields does well and not try to fit a square peg into a round hole. Indy would be interesting

You really only need two primary pass catchers with Fields. Frees up cap space for other spots.
