But that’s the whole point. They are in a position where all they’re going to get is another Mason Rudolph.
That's possible, but its also a Bear mentality IMO. You can still get a good QB in the mid-late 1st round, but you have to try.

One thing to keep in mind - both Tomlin (a couple of weeks ago) and now Rooney have floated the idea of drafting a QB in the next couple of years. Tomlin said you need to draft early to get a franchise QB, and pointed out how Baltimore got Jackson at the end of the first round, etc. And now Rooney is saying that it's possible that the Steelers could draft a QB this year or next.

If you read tea leaves, it sounds like they'll go with Wilson and have him groom the next QB they draft.
I thought this as well, until Rooney mentioned that the ages of Fields and Russ would be a consideration on their choice of who gets a new multi year contract.

I don't see Indy going for Fields since Anthony Richardson is the same type of player he is?
I think Indy realizes that Richardson is a bust. On top of that, Richardson checking himself out of game because he felt fatigued is probably a huge red flag.

a much bigger consideration would be the price tag as the Steelers are very frugal.
Russ will still want big money while Justin will get bridge QB money.

I can’t say I know much about this QB class but I have seen multiple people say the best QB this year would be 6 or 7 last year.

If I were them I would take Fields for two years. Russ isn’t winning shit. And if Fields does bomb well that gets you a better pick in maybe a better QB class.

But knowing the Steelers they’ll keep Russ and keep treading water
I think Rooney hinted at his preference when he said that age would be a consideration, and he also said it would be up to the quarterback (Russ or Fields) to make a decision themselves. I believe he’s saying that Justin is who they want, but he has to understand they are not gonna break the bank for him.

I believe Justin’s best opportunity of success in the league is to stay in Pittsburgh on a discounted contract in comparison to what he may get elsewhere. Learning yet another offense would set him back even further, so he should stay in this system in Pittsburgh and hopefully earn a better contract from them in a few years.

You really only need two primary pass catchers with Fields. Frees up cap space for other spots.
Downs, Pierce and Mitchell are all on their rookie deals - of course Taylor got a decently sized contract but it's nothing compared to the top end WR contracts.

It would be the best schematic fit, OL, WR core and RB he's ever played with by far.

I agree. I just made a comment saying similar. Rooney literally said the quarterback(s) have a decision to make also, which clearly was about their contract expectations in my opinion.

I think Fields fits best in Indy of all the possibilities. Him and Taylor and that OL would really stress some run defenses, spreading them out and making good tackling necessary to stop big plays.
I think another year in Pittsburgh’s system would do wonders for Fields, but yes, Indianapolis is a good fit for him.

I slightly agree but also strongly disagree if he winds up with a coach who knows how to properly utilize him.

Shane Steichen built the Eagles offense around Hurts' strengths and Justin's highly similar to him.

There's a few good landing spots this off-season though - he'd be foolish to take a low offer from the Steelers when there's so many QB desperate teams right now.

I think they draft Jaxon Dart if they get the chance

He's certainly a better option(and ewers) but i feel like arthur smith gets hard ons when he see's a running qb who cant throw

They use Hurts like a mule. And of course they have top 5 talent on the offense not counting QB.

But overall, yeah if Justin can go somewhere with more talent and or get paid more, he should.

He's been the name that's rising on Twitter, dunno if he lasts to their pick.

Yep, why i feel like there is a chance the bears get a top player to drop. There is always a QB or two who rises heavy as **** up draft boards after the combine/pro days.

Just look at last year, at around this time people expected jj and bo nix to be 2nd rounders. A couple years ago people expected richardson to be a 2nd rounder too and he was a top 5 pick

Im guessing one of dart or ewers has a chance of sneaking into the top 10

If Ewers is drafted before the second round it's a bad pick.

Dart could rise. But this not a good year for QB, and there are often years where no QBs go in the top 10.

Word is they want Fields - just people reading the tea leaves of the owner essentially saying the "who to sign" edge goes to the younger player.

That said, if Fields stays in Pitt, he should not sign for longer than 1 year. The gives him a hedge in case the Steelers draft a QB and/or bring someone else in. He needs to avoid - at all costs - getting stuck in a deal with Pitt where he ends up #2 while wasting his prime.

All in all, I would rather see him go elsewhere. I don't have much confidence in Pittsburgh's weapons/Oline/and OC. If he can get to a spot that will use and develop him the way the Ravens have used and developed Lamar (or even the Eagles & Hurts) that would be best.

I hope he signs with the Raiders. My AFC team.

Imagine that. I root for the losers in both the NFC and the AFC.

At this point, I would think that he'll sign a prove-it deal with the team that gives him the best opportunity to flourish, like Sam Darnold did. The other avenue would be if there's enough of a bidding war, he may have to see what the max guaranteed money he can get. A majority of the teams picking in the top 10 should at least consider grabbing him. It's a weak QB draft, so he might've lucked into one hell of an opportunity, especially if MN locks up Darnold.
