"I thought both Russ and Justin showed promise in certain stretches during the season, and I think they're both capable of being starters in this league. So we have decisions, and they have decisions, too."

^^^That literally doesn't say anything about multi-year QB contracts or the team's intentions.

Maybe read the article before calling someone a liar, bro.

————Below is literally from the article————

Rooney expressed a desire to make the next quarterback contract longer than one year.

"It sort of takes two to tango, and so we'll see where it goes," Rooney said. "I think my preference would probably be to have something more than a one-year in place next time around, but we'll see what it takes."

I think Fields fits best in Indy of all the possibilities. Him and Taylor and that OL would really stress some run defenses, spreading them out and making good tackling necessary to stop big plays.
I texted my brother (a Colts fan who watches every game faithly) about it and he texted me back "I think Indy could be a very good landing spot for fields if he gets a chance to start, Steichen has a lot of experience developing quarterbacks and knows how to tailor a game plan to their strengths."

He is a big fan of Richardson and doesn't want Indianapolis to give up on him. And even though he likes Fields to he only sees him as a short term stop gap solution.

Word is they want Fields - just people reading the tea leaves of the owner essentially saying the "who to sign" edge goes to the younger player.

That said, if Fields stays in Pitt, he should not sign for longer than 1 year. The gives him a hedge in case the Steelers draft a QB and/or bring someone else in. He needs to avoid - at all costs - getting stuck in a deal with Pitt where he ends up #2 while wasting his prime.

All in all, I would rather see him go elsewhere. I don't have much confidence in Pittsburgh's weapons/Oline/and OC. If he can get to a spot that will use and develop him the way the Ravens have used and developed Lamar (or even the Eagles & Hurts) that would be best.
From recent comments made by Tomlin and Rooney, I can actually see the Steelers entertain offers for a Pickens trade.

“Pickens is the team’s top wideout, but his 2024 season saw him miss time due to injury, show flashes of frustration on and off the field and reportedly show up late for the team’s Christmas game. Pickens capped the year by saying he wasn’t optimistic about the direction of the offense, which led to head coach Mike Tomlin saying that the wideout has room to grow up.

Rooney echoed that feeling and said that he’s hopeful Pickens “realizes the potential that he has” as a player.

“Every team seems to have one or two guys in that room who you have to manage correctly,” Rooney said, via the team’s website. “I still think George has enough talent that we’ve got to try to work and see if we can get him to fulfill the talent that he really has. Who knows if we can get there? We’ll see. But when you have guys who are as talented as some of the guys you’re probably thinking of, you try to work with them and have them help you be successful.”

Rooney’s comments suggest the Steelers won’t be racing to get a new contract done. Given his comments about the offense, Pickens may not be in a great hurry either but any lack of alignment could be fodder for further frustrations in 2025.”

The year there should have been good for him - Tomlin's got a ceiling but that dude is gonna win ten games a year no matter what and seeing how Russ prepared could absolutely be a benefit to a young QB.

Cleveland, Vegas, NYG, Indy and a few other teams desperately need a QB. Darnold is the clear first FA QB but he's clearly a better option over Kirk who's physically incapable.
Indy doesn't need a smaller slower older and more expensive version of Anthony Richardson....

Dude has already missed a years worth of games and he's only been in the NFL for two seasons. He had a 47.7% competition % this past season and asked to be taken out of a game at a crucial moment.

Not sure Ballard can hitch his wagon to that for another year. He might and he most likely will be fired after next season then.

You think him hitching his wagon to Fields is that much smarter?

People say this shit every year and then every year two or three qb's go in the top 15. Usually more...

Yea, 3 qb's will go in the top 15. You said GOOD QB

None of these guys are good, and will be overdrafted due to need. maybe cam ward has a shot but the rest would be day 2 picks at best in a good qb class

Fields was a better prospect than any QB in this class. Not saying any of them wont be good but this is a shit class.

He likely also only gets a 1 year deal, so its not hitching anything.

But i doubt that the colts move on from arich, he will get another year.

Every QB from the 'celebrated' 2021 class was overdrafted, too.

“"I'm looking forward to hopefully going back to the Steelers and we'll see what happens with the rest," Wilson told The Associated Press. "I love it in Pittsburgh."

The Steelers might have other ideas.

Team president Art Rooney II indicated Monday that he would like to keep Wilson or Justin Fields on a multiyear deal. Rooney didn't specify which one, but he said age could play a factor in the decision.

Fields, who went 4-2 while filling in for an injured Wilson early in the season, turns 26 next month. Wilson had made three Pro Bowls before Fields even became a star at Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Georgia.”

So we are going to pretend Tomlin didn't bench fields for Wilson and play Wilson the rest of the season including the playoffs because he clearly had more faith in him. But now he's going to choose fields?

Hes likely going to give Wilson 2-3 years and draft a qb like dart/ewers/shough/McCord

If you actually watched them down the stretch you can believe it.
Plus Fields is 10 years younger and will be much cheaper.

They are trying to pay their playmakers and go for Higgins. Russ' price tag hurts them.

I mustve missed Tomlin benching Wilson for his poor play for fields who was still on the team and a viable option to replace a struggling qb and Jumpstart the offense

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
Shane Steichen built the Eagles offense around Hurts' strengths and Justin's highly similar to him.
You mean built the offense around 2,000 yard rusher Saquon Barkley. He went for 2903 18 and 5.

If the Chiefs get up by 14 it's over quick. If it becomes a shoot out it's over. The Eagles beat up on two bad QBs and one rookie.

I don't know why the entire NFL fails to realize that it's all about the QB.
