“According to Steelers reporters Mark Kaboly of "The Pat McAfee Show" and Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports, Pittsburgh would prefer to run it back with Fields instead of Wilson.

"I think they're waiting to see what kind of answer they get from [Fields]," Kaboly said during a Wednesday appearance on Pittsburgh sports radio station 93.7 The Fan, as shared by Jake Brockhoff of Steelers Depot. "And while they wait for him, they got to pretend. And I say pretend like they are interested in everybody just in case Justin Fields does not want to come here or gets a better offer somewhere else. I think it's always been Justin. I think he's [Pittsburgh's] No. 1 priority. But you can't put all your eggs in your basket...Justin Fields is the guy they want."

Steelers general manager Omar Khan suggested that he'd be fine having either Fields or Wilson atop the depth chart for the start of springtime workouts. While stories continue to link Fields with quarterback-needy teams such as the New York Jets, New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts, Kinkhabwala previously reported that "coaches and general managers around the league" had revealed there was not much of a market for Wilson's services.”

I don’t get what’s tone def there. I also don’t get how Stafford’s agent would get the talking points to his clients pitch and the details of the owners involvement prior to the pitch.
The Giants should have let go of that regime but they're going all in on Stafford to save their jobs.

He's old, probably won't be enough to save their jobs, expensive and will cost draft capital. It's an obviously terrible move.

I mean... the same could be said of almost anyone trading for him though.

If Stafford wants $50M and other teams are willing to give him it and a team is willing to give you a nice 2nd for him - do it 100% because you're Sean McVey and you make QBs.

Look at KOC having Darnold come from obscurity to throwing for 4300 yards and 35 TDs. He did it for $10M and they didn't miss a beat. Paying Cousins in his late 30s was not the move for them.

GB moved on from Rodgers and didn't miss a beat. They got a nice return for Aaron and made the playoffs both years.

Sean McVey + Fields at $18-22M/yr is a lethal combo when you're talking about a division that has Kyler at $46M/yr, Purdy is about to get that and Geno at $25M/year.

I legit don't know what they're going to do - Darnold makes no sense, paying Stafford $50m/yr for his late 30s makes no sense and putting it all on a draft pick is too risky. Rodgers for 1 year at a vet min also makes perfect sense to keep the cart moving but you're still stuck with no long term answer.

Think about the 2021 draft - Shanny went all in on traits and Lance was just too much of a project for it to work out. But they swung for the fences on measurables. Fields in FA is not going to be nearly as costly, his floor is much higher so it's far less of a risk. All of the great offensive coaches know when it's time to let an old QB go - LaFluer with Aaron, Peyton with Russ, Niners with Montana, KOC with Cousins.
Sean McVay’s offense relies on completing passes

I don't know. He's old but would now be an extra year removed for his achilles injury. At 40 that problably takes more than a year to be all you can be.
If you’re the Jets (sorry) why would you release Adams?

This is just like Groundhogs Day for Saints fan. Imagine trying to be excited about him returning
No team is worse at not realizing when to say when. (No, Robert Irsay, I don’t mean like that!)

Because his salary is fucking $35M dollars and he's 32 years old.

Well, with the Raiders they have some leeway. Carroll won't bomb, Spytek has Brady's blessing so he won't be out of the door there so there's some semblance of stability that will give you a chance to make it work. With the Giants - those motherfucks are getting fired. It might be OK enough to be better than the Cowboys but most likely not and there's really no good plan for them. The owner fucked up keeping that regime in place - it's dead.

Sure, but them getting fired or not doesn't really change that the Raiders and Giants are two of the worst teams in the league and giving up assets for an old QB is kind of pointless. It's just donating picks and money for his going away tour.

New regime getting their feet on the ground is much better than a failing regime going for a last ditch effort to win.

If he goes to the Raiders - he's going to be there until they find a young QB (think Alex Smith with the Chiefs) where as there's a high likelihood that the Giants will be tearing stuff down next year and there's no obligation for the next regime to make it work with him. Poles had no interest in developing Fields despite the franchise giving up 2 firsts for him.

Well, the Giants could at least draft his replacement to learn behind him for a year or two. That would be a nice setup actually. I think the Giants may have more talent on their roster too.

It's true all those people may get fired, but I don't really think that matters much in terms of structuring a team. You have to operate in a way to produce the best short and long term outcome for the team regardless. In terms of where each team is, the rosters are bare bones for both teams, so they need their picks regardless of a hot seat. The Raiders trading for Stafford could be the move to get them on the hot seat in a couple years when he leaves.

I will restate though, I think this is all posturing. I don't think Stafford will leave the Rams.
