Well, the Giants could at least draft his replacement to learn behind him for a year or two. That would be a nice setup actually. I think the Giants may have more talent on their roster too.

It's true all those people may get fired, but I don't really think that matters much in terms of structuring a team. You have to operate in a way to produce the best short and long term outcome for the team regardless. In terms of where each team is, the rosters are bare bones for both teams, so they need their picks regardless of a hot seat. The Raiders trading for Stafford could be the move to get them on the hot seat in a couple years when he leaves.

I will restate though, I think this is all posturing. I don't think Stafford will leave the Rams.
If Stafford remains with the Rams it'll be interesting to see who the Raiders top option is and who the Giants go after.

Breer mentioned Rodgers for the Giants yesterday - him + a rookie would make more sense to me than Stafford.

Yea, absolutely. If I'm the Giants, I'm giving away no assets for an aging vet... same for any bad team really. I think they can fill the mentor/stop gap role with other free agents. I can't totally blame the Jets for what they did, but I'd at least need to see my roster like theirs where I feel I'm on the verge of turning it around to take that risk on an old QB. Obviously, it was a disaster for them in hindsight.

Ironically, I think the Jets trading for Stafford makes way more sense than the Giants. Colts would be another great fit. Colts are a dome too, which is what Stafford is used to. I still think the Rams are just playing this game to have others do their negotiating for them so they can just offer a match, or slightly less, than others are giving up.

I was pulling for Trubisky to get another shot and after multiple trips around the block and multiple failures, I am fairly convinced that he will always be a backup. Nothing to sneeze at. Hold a clipboard and make millions is a pretty sweet gig. Why do I bring him up? Because like many guys on here, there are always question marks about just how badly young QB's have been damaged by being associated with that wrecking ball known as the Bears. So its only natural to want to see if the next one in line (JFields) can manage to unstuck the f'up that is the Bears and get himself back on track. His next choice in team will go a long way in determining if he is destined for a clipboard career or not.

All of that said -- word today is Pittsburgh now favors Russ. Personally, I believe this is bargaining ploy to take some of the steam out out the Pitt loves Fields talk in order to get him and his team to lower their demands. Justin should not fall for it... hold out and see what comes on the open market. Tomlin is too quick on the draw. Trust him through a mild down turn on a rocky team? I would not. As quick as Tomlin tells you "you are the guy".... as soon as that team starts losing a few games, here comes the hook.

My read of the Steelers situation based on their beat reporters is that Fields gets more money/years elsewhere than what they're willing to give so he'll wind up elsewhere.

If the Raiders miss on Stafford it'll be interesting to see if they jump in on him along with the Jets.

I don't hate Russell for the Steelers if they do wind up drafting a QB - he is good enough to set the table for a rookie.

Agreed. The Russ talk could be a ploy but if it is real, if I was Fields, I would let that ship sail.... unless that give him concrete promises and have a firm plan. But even then, I am not sure I trust Tomlin if that team struggles a little bit. Regarding Russ, as you pointed out, they could do a lot worse. If they can get some horses and add protection, going with Russ could work.

Justin's best work as a Bear came against the Lions - so it makes sense that the Jets would be willing to offer more than the Steelers are.

Goff was seen as a bridge QB and they had a lot of success with him - but it was also a 3-4 year process. Wonder if they apply that logic to Fields here and give him 3 years.

Poor Raiders are just being used at this point to get people paid.

Btw, this Ricky guy really legit? Seems a bit hot.
