I wouldn't mind playing somewhere else, but our requirements are:

1) Reasonable in cost
2) Not crowded
3) Located somewhere that doesn't make the drive obscene for anyone (we've got someone coming from at least 20 minutes from my house in each direction (north, south, east, and west).

I'm not sure where else would be better to play.

It's fine really.

Don't worry about it.

It's same for everybody not just me so it's all good.

I agree with you though in that I'm not in love with playing at the Y, I just don't know of a better place to go play.

There's another local gym near my house we could go that might be okay in the summers. In the winters it's jammed though. I'll have to check it out and see. The only problem is that it's only one full court with baskets on the sides too, so when it gets crowded people shoot at all 6 baskets and it's hard to really do anything.

Oh that sucks.

I have a great gym right across from my home (the one which you came to). You saw it. It's a great gym and we got lot of rims there so it would not be a problem except it would be really far for few people except fola and me ofcourse.

If you got room for one more, I'd play some of this "basketball" which seems so popular with the kiddies nowadays.

I was just going to ask you Doug, when are we playing again???

I am really looking forward to it. It's time to redeem myself.

This time I am NOT losing any games.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
All this talk of real basketball makes me wish more of my friends would be willing to play basketball with me. I would join you guys, but the distance (i'm actually not sure how far away i am from where you guys play) and the fact that I don't really know any of you personally would probably not fly with my parents. There's also the fact that I kinda suck at basketball and I'm most likely a good 3-6 inches shorter than the rest of you (i am not tall at all) so I would probably be in a disadvantage anyway even though I would like to think I have more endurance than most of you (based off what i've read anyway).

I guess being in high school has its advantages. But I think my endurance would only last me a few moments more than the rest of you depending on what I actually would do in the game. If it is really a lot of 3pt shooting like it has been described, then I think I can outlast most of you, otherwise my advantage isn't really much of an advantage. But again, I don't think I'll be playing any of you unless you're all willing to travel to the northern Chicago suburbs XD

Just wait until you get in college. Just go over to the rec and there are usually 2-3 pickup games going on at a time.

Haha, obviously once I get into college, finding a pickup game will never be a problem since it's college...there's always SOMEONE playing. But as of right now, I have no luck.

We play in the northwest suburbs (Schaumburg) right now at a the YMCA, so if you ever want to come out you're welcome to. We're a friendly group that is, unless you meet Fred and reply Hinrich to the first question he asks everyone I've seen him meet.

Schaumburg is a good 40 minutes away from where I live. If I were independent I would be willing to take the trip to play with you guys, but alas I am not, so oh well.

Does anyone have experience with the YMCA? I think I'm going to buy a membership there for the summer, since it's only $25 a month (which would be $75 for the entire summer!). There is a real nice gym by my house, but they haven't returned my email about whether they will do summer only packages (they have a 1 year membership term policy), and I don't think they plan to get around to my email. The YMCA is more "ghetto", but that can work out good for basketball a lot of the times. They have separate lockerooms for kids and adults, which is nice, and they have a sauna and "steam bath" (what's a steam bath?) as well.

They have a ton of weightlifting material too, but I'll be like Reggie Miller and never go in there.
