Wasn't sure if you were serious...

Payton was a great defender and Wade is an excellent all-around player but I'd probably throw in guys like Jerry West or Havlicek before I include those guys in your top 15.

What criteria are being used to judge "greatness" in your list?

Are we talking about compiling statistics overall? Rate stats? Advanced crap like "win shares" or whatever basketball people use these days? Are we talking intangibles like "heart" and "leadership" and "clutch"?

I think LeBron is a very gifted and fun player to watch whether he's a douchebag or not, but I think he has a bit to go before he cracks the top 15. But being a subjective list I'm sure there are arguments either way.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
I'd have Lebron between Shaq and Drexler :bro:

Versatility.

Rings.

Randomness.

Current Bulls.

Sabremetric's in basektball for the loss.

Hate them.

Fire and Passion was factored in.

The premise of this topic is to attempt to incite something with me. He did the same thing with a different OT thread yesterday and mod recognized that and proceeded to close it.

I suggest you do the same if you care about trolls polluting the Bulls' forum.

The easiest way to deal with FirstTimer if you don't like what he says is to simply ignore him.

No offense FT. Just sayin'.

The premise of this thread (while the names I bolded in the opening post) is fine for a basketball related forum. Could be good for discussion. If it gets out of hand I'm sure a mod will deal with it.

Dirty secret about Wilt...he clowned Russell consistantly. I think he averaged 28 and 28 against him during their matchups.(Numbers could be off but it was something ridiculous.)

Havlicek was a good player who was durable and played for a really long time, but I don't think he's top 15 material. I would stop short of calling Havlicek a "great" player.

I think ranking alltime bball players is the hardest, because not a whole lot is known about the NBA's past, and if you are going to focus on championships then all of your old-time players are going to be Celtics.

I think your points are fair.

What about Pete Maravich? Julius Erving? Where would you rank those? Maybe you guys should set up a top 50 list and then the players can be ranked up or down as the discussion progresses.

Fixed teh Wilt stat.

He wet for 28pppg and 28rpg against Russell.

IIRC correctly, Russell was seen as pretty good.

Not sure why Wilt is seen as overrated. Who would move ahead of him?

Maravich is a terrible choice. I don't see how he was included in the NBA top 50. I remember when people bitched about Bill Walton being included, but at least there was a time in NBA history when Bill Walton was the best player in the league. Maravich can make no such claim. Great story, great player, but the production just isn't there.

I only saw the 1980's Sixers Erving, and I always thought he was overrated. He was more of the "elder statesman" of the team than the true superstar (Moses Malone). And those Sixers teams were really loaded with great players. I've read that Erving was dominant in the ABA...a great scorer and rebounder and defender. So I'd put him in the top 25, maybe top 15, but not a top 10 guy, IMO.

I like this discussion.

Who's in your top 15 then?

For whatever reason Moses Malone is one of the most underrated/forgotten players in basketball discussions concerning the best players ever. IMO he's a legit chocie for a Top 10 player of all time.

Perhaps that has to do with my age or the fact eh was kind of sandiwched between Wilt, then played at the same time as Kareem, a young Dream then you had the 90's that were really center heavy. Maybe easy to get lost in the mix. Especially playing in the 80's and no tbeing on the Lkers or Celtics.

his dominance partly was because of his ridiculous tools....he really a stat padder imo...even the year he averaged 8 assists it was because he decided to take complete control over the ball

he lost to russell consistently...didnt win a championship until he had west and baylor on the lakers

i think wilt is top 10 but i just think he's overrated

no asik on your list

for shame

Here's the NBA's top 50 list I found, I think this is the 50th anniversary list though and I don't know if they updated it at some point.

NBA.com: The NBA at 50

Of those, how many actually belong and how many would you stick in your top 15? If there are guys left off that list who should be in the top 15, I'd like to hear about it.

But he clowned Russell..a lot. Going for 28 and 28 against him 55 rebounds against him. I think Russell being on the better team and holding that against Wilt is a bit much.

Wilt was a complete asshole in a lot of ways but Dude was so dominant that it's tough to leave him out of the Top 5..let alone saying he's Top 10.
