Lex I'm curious, what do you think the Cubs' payroll is going to be next season?

I have no idea. But, truthfully, its more about what it should be than what it will be.

And for all this small market fixation going on here, people need to take a look at Tampa. Thats probably the best run small market team. But they have a fan base that doesnt care because Florida is all about football. There are only about 3 baseball cities (St Louis, Boston, and New York). Chicago is big enough to wrap its arm around baseball but its more of a football city. But the point is, baseball is and has been hemorrhaging fans to football. The Cubs have a massive fan base. They need to do everything they can to hold on to that given baseball's current economic system.

Levine was told the payroll is 125M now, but I think it's lower.

That pretty much ensures we don't go after Dunn.

No way we add that much payroll even after figuring Zambrano, Fuky possibly being dealt off..

You've gotta factor the guys up for arb too.. Which include Marmol, Marshall, Soto.. (few others can take a hike)

We're gonna keep it around 100.. That's about it.

1. No its not; 2. The two arent mutually exclusive.

Holy crap.

Are you freakin serious dude?

As a multi-million dollar organization you must have a plan for growth whether it be in the business facet or the player development end..

If its not important.. Why do we have a minor league system in the first place?

Oh and player development and scouting is important..

How did basically every team in the MLB find all star foreign players? How did they develop them before they got up to the show?

I understand you want Adam Dunn.. you've gotta think logically sometime though.

I think you need a refresher course on Cubs history. The World did not begin in the last few playoff runs.. The first time Wrigley was full since the 1969 season was in 1984. Its basically been nearly full to sell out since. Sure it wained a little in 1997.. Then Wood struck out 20 in 98 and the stands were full.. They started winning and its basically been sold out since.. Occasionally there are a few bumps.. Like the end of 2006.. Where the seats were sold.. but people didnt show up.. The same with the end of this season.

This whole thing of the "small market fixation". That incredibly overblown by you.. None of us want a 50 mill payroll.. NONE of us do.

Trimming some of the dead fat off of a 125 million (Levine reported as of 9/29-9/30) is by all means the correct thing to do.. It holds Hendry accountable and it holds the new owners accountable for not fucking up our spending room in the future..

I really hate to tell ya.. Just because we don't spend to get Dunn.. our world isn't going to end.

Thank you...

And even if we had the money, Dunn wouldn't be smart. We'd have to bench Colvin when Jackson comes up...
