If he were to contemplate that, then he could acquire the pick. Simple as that. Burke re-acquired his own picks to prepare for an offer sheet for Phil Kessel, it's been done before, by another GM who has won the Cup. He never had to send the offer sheet but he went on record to explain this was the plan.

The last thing he needs to do to gain respect around the league is try and "screw" another team on purpose.

I think both deals are bad, but I think the deal for Oduya is worse than the 1st for Gaustad with a 4th coming back. Could have used those picks to offer sheet Schneider and put Vancouver in a really tough spot this summer. Not so smart of a trade now, is it? Those picks have more value in the offseason than they do to this team, here and now. Oduya isn't putting them over the edge.

I don't think Stan wants to give up on Craw just yet (I wouldn't yet either although his showing this year hasn't been even worth picking up the pen to write home). I would love Schnieder here I have been tooting that kids horns for 4 years now and unlike the rest of the dick head roster Schneider is actually a good guy. I'm not to concerned about offer sheet stuff. In my world I wouldn't like the Hawks to get involved with that shit and with a rookie GM who already doesn't have much of a reputation with fellow GM's it's probably not in his best interest to make any enemies. Would be nice to cut the throats of the Canucks but giving them draft picks for a guy that they aren't re-signing anyways? Seems to me that is helping a team that already has a pretty small amount of prospects in their system. Schneider will probably be delt and signed before the draft and before any offer sheets are thrown his way and the Canucks were never going to listen to a Hawks deal anyways.

I agree Oduya isn't even close to putting the Hawks over the edge. Trust me the 2nd and 3rd were tough to swallow. But uncharacteristicaly of me I am going to give Stan the bennifit of the doubt that he can at least get one of those picks back before the 2013 draft. I still think Oduya is re-signed by Stan also and if Stan can at least get a 2nd rounder back somehow then Oduya is worth a 3rd. Just depends on what Stan has to do to get that 2nd back. Obviously guys like Frolik aren't going to do it.

Ton posted an interesting Burkesque trick. God I have a hard time disliking Burke now as I used to really question that guy. Wish our GM was a players GM and not a corporate puppet. Oh well.

Yes I think they are going to re-acquire the picks before free agency so they can offer sheet Schneider. I also pray to Eklund, smoke crack, and traded Kane for Turris on my Xbox this morning.

I was just saying there is no rule against getting your picks back.

Offer sheets are rarely used and for good reason. Since the lockout, only six players have signed offer sheets and only one of them have actually switched teams (Dustin Penner), and when that happened the Oilers pissed off a lot of people. Vancouver pissed off St. Louis, so St. Louis returned the favor by sending an offer sheet back their way. We don't need that right now.

Since 2008, only one player has signed an offer sheet... Hjalmarsson.

And Penner can't even score a fucking goal anymore. lol

For all the praise Burke gets, he's a terrible fucking GM. Toronto has sucked for how long? They haven't even made the playoffs in the three or four years he's been GM.

Oh that has very little to do with Burke. Leafs have had the problem that the Hawks now are facing. Becoming nothing but a club focused on the corporate side. Didn't help when the majority ownership of the Leafs was a teachers union who used the team to build a pension fund. The leafs have been so unhockey related for years now but it's starting to change now that those Teachers have sold off their shares. Still a corporate club but it's more based upon entertainment and sport and less on a majority ownership that has nothing to do with sports, entertainment or hockey. Leafs have never been givin the reigns to be a hockey org in a very long time. It's pretty much the start this year now that the Teachers are gone. Wait and see what Burke does...just wait.

Burke has done just fine in his tenors with other teams. He is also a GM most players would love to play for. He puts their personal lives first a lot and knows a player who is less stressed off the ice is a better player on it. He makes charity work manditory, looks after players famillies as much as the players themselves, He also addresses the media a lot fucking more than our boring puppet GM. And no one gets a shit kicking from the media more than Burke yet he doesn't curl up in a little coward ball and turn away from them. The man can dish it back harder than anyone in the media can give it to him and when you are a GM of a team like the Leafs that's a must quality. He is by far the best GM the Leafs have had in eons.

Burke is not a good GM. I'm not buying it. Hartford, Vancouver, Anaheim, Toronto. He won a cup in Anaheim that was already made for him, and then in two years he fucked it all up by doing what he always does. Signs a veteran FA in the summer to a gamble contract. Only time it ever worked for him was Selanne, the year after he signed Morrison, the year after, Bertuzzi.

Also, if you remember, he could have gone deep with Vancouver if he got off his ass and got a goaltender, but every year was Dan Cloutiers year.

i personally think we'll re-sign Oduya in the summer. Also, i think we'll get one or both or even more 2013 picks once the actual draft comes around in a year and a half

Thats true Cloutiers playoff performances were shit bad and it was really something the Canucks needed more than anything. I do agree I think Burke screwed up royaly there. No arguments.

I'm just hoping he's not asking for a huge contract.

TCD and Rex I agree with you both. Oduya is SUCH a smart player. He makes the best puck decisions of all our D men right now. Keith and Seabs still take the other team's best, but this guy's flat out been great IMO.

and he's taking minutes away from Keith and Seabrook, which is what we need during the stretch drive.

im going to be the first to say it also....i like how Q has been using him. I always thought Oduya was good at the defensive end of the game but I had a feeling no one ever really utilized him right on the offensive end of the game. Q is giving him a bit more offensive space which he has never really had before. He has a decent shot and he can make a good pass when given the chances. His defensive game is still the better of the two but hes reacting well to added responsibilities.

like you said he has smart puck play. Hes a low risk player. Hes not going to take extreme chances creating high risk. Hes going to make simple hockey plays but he executes them nicely. Was a rough first game when he first came here he has settled in really well after that and works hard every shift. I love that in a blueliner. I want him signed a.s.a.p. before his agent gets a bloated ego.

unfortunately he's going to likely want a raise, at least a small one. Problem is, he's already making 3.5 mil

I think he might take less to stay, but who knows. Either way I was definitely wrong about this move. 6-1-1 since it.

Kinda shows how much this team really did miss Campbell aye?

3/13 - Keith played 29min vs STL, Seabrook 26

3/11 - Keith played 29min vs LA, Seabrook 26

3/9 - Keith played 27min vs NYR, Seabrook 25

3/6 - Keith played 28min vs STL, Seabrook 24

3/4 - Keith played 24min vs DET, Seabrook 28

3/2 - Keith played 27min vs OTT, Seabrook 27

2/29 - Keith played 30min vs TOR, Seabrook 24

Keith averages 27:00 min per game

Seabrook 24:20 min per game

I don't think he's taking minutes from them. Oduya is what Hjarllmarsson is/was supposed to be. He's a very good outlet passer, smart player, very good skater. As much as Leddy's been criticized at times, maybe it wasn't him as much as a better partner. That pairing (Leddy/Oduya) has been very good during the stretch.
