Wow, your American cell phone rates are awesome compared to what we pay north of the border :/

I have a "fav 10" pack(unlimited call or text) with 200 anytime min and 5G of data for 65$ a month. I don't even think an unlimited package is available. Plus my plan doesn't even exist anymore(only to current plan holders.

Do you guys have limited providers out there? Competition is what drives pricing down.

The CRTC wich controls the airwaves if you will are very "iffy" on letting in new competition, which is absolute BS if you ask this guy.

The big three have the best networks, and their pricing is "collusive", for lack of a better word. All about $60 for similar call , text and data plans. Limited daytime calling, unlimited evening/weekend, unlimited text and about 500MB data.

There are several smaller carriers though, and the government is aware that a more fair playing field and better pricing for consumers is needed.

There are unlimited data plans with smaller carriers like Wind, but they employ a fair use policy where after the first 5 gigs, the speed is reduced.

Mobilcity is what I would look into if I were in the market:

MOBILICITY (Telus offered to buy them but government rejected the proposal)

Best plan base rate is current promotion: $35 / month (usually offered at $45 / month)

Unlimited long-distance calls in Canada and U.S.

Unlimited North American text and picture messaging

Caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, three-way calls, voicemail

Roaming: 30 minutes included

Data: Unlimited

iPhone 5: Mobilicity doesn’t sell it, but you can purchase it separately and bring it to them to activate (Only iPhone 5 model works with Mobilicity)

Samsung Galaxy S4: $649.99

Activation fee: None, but need to visit kiosk to activate SIM card

No contract: You can cancel or change plans at any time

Problem with the smaller guys is you only get good service in the cities, I know Wind in Ontario is like that.

And texting across the border is pretty pricy if you don't add the proper plan, with Telus anyways. I've been a slave to them for 15 years :/ and never missed a bill payement either! Damn it, I feel a little ripped off at the moment!!

It's hard to compete with the Big 3 when it comes to the spectrum auctions. Even Verizon changed its mind on a foray into the Canadian market.

And **** Telus. One of the most cynical companies I have ever had the misfortune to do business with.

I expected this reply. And I don't deny any of this. Nowhere in my post did I state life in general was better without a smart phone. It's a wash for me, and I don't miss it at this point in my life.
Well, let me just rip off my dick for saying anything

I had Sprint for about a million years, the last couple of which I was paying a $10/month "smart phone" fee even though they never got around to installing a 4G network in my state or even saying when they planned to. Even when I traveled to major cities I had trouble getting a signal. So I switched to Verizon. They are as evil as a large corporation can get, and they are not cheap, but you know what? I always have a good signal now, even in remote areas where other people don't seem to have service. That's a nice feeling when I'm stuck in an airport where the wifi isn't free.

I feel your pain man. Verizon is expensive but I like having coverage everywhere I go.

Rask, here's your chance. Play it cool.

Sent from Cuba

I know....I was thinking the same thing. 22....single....no kids.....game on!!! Bears fans, go!

But no....I live in Colorado and I met a promising woman closer to my age just a couple weeks ago, so I cannot flatter Mrs. Grossman or play games. I have a one track mind about these things.

Who could have ever predicted that the phone would be the device that could do all these things. Everyone thought it would be the personal computer, but nope, it turned out to be the damn phone.
