In all seriousness though, Rice is right. Which is why you see RP's move quite a bit at the break. Everyone is trying to hop on a hot season for a guy and you can get them fro penny's on the dollar at times. Typically good starters have a more concrete value of sorts as their career and numbers don't fluctuate as wildly so the market is more set and the price for the guys worth trading for is typically higher.

Meh.

McNutt isn't all that great. Nicholas Struck is interesting but doesn't project to anything better than a #3...and that's being really optimistic.

Point is we have some.

It's not gonna be the second coming of 90's Atlanta.. ya gotta start somewhere.

I mean, there are 159 ERA+ LH RPs all over the place, right?

Sure you can use era+ from this year of 159 to back up your claim, but relievers are hit or miss from year to year.

Cliff Politte had an era+ of 225 in 2005, in 2006 era+ was 55 and than out of baseball. This is why you arent going to fleece a team with russell. you never know what you will get out of relievers.

You may have missed his sarcasm.

I think the point is that we really don't.

You're talking guys that are rated 3-5 as potential starters.. That's some.

Would be nice to have some high caliber ones right now that are closer but we don't.

FT has never been sold on McNutt, and the most optimistic projections were a 2 starter. Given his injury troubles and some the issues he has had the past couple of years it is hard to see him reaching that potential.

Trey McNutt is a stud,

Actually he isn't..at all. If Trey McNutt was a stud he wouldn't have a losing record at AA, with an ERA of close to 4.75, a WHIP of 1.5+, and K/9 of barely over 5.

McNutt hasn't been good since 2010 when he was lighting up A ball. Every since he has moved to AA he's been pretty unremarkable..if not bad.

If that's a stud pitching prospect to you I have some ocean front property in Arizona I'd like to offer to you.

OK whatever you say ... he only gave up 8 runs (4 earned) yesterday, STUD!

Trey McNutt=The white Jay Jackson

The idea that he could be a high leverage relief pitcher isn't too far fetched, but that would be pretty disappointing from the highest ceiling pitching prospect in the Cubs system at AA or above.

His control issues and low k rates are a pretty big warning sign that he won't do anything. Dude just doesn't miss many bats.
