Poles sucks at drafting. He has wasted every 3rd and 4th round pick since he's been here.
3rd round
Velus Jones (not on team after 2 seasons)
Zach Pickens (no production)
Kirwan Amedgaje (far from being a starter)
4th round
Roschon Johnson (mid at best)
Tyler Scott (can't see the field)
Tory Taylor (avg punter taken too high)
Keenan Allen (1 year rental for $22 mil)
5th round
Braxton Jones (low end starter)
Dominique Robinson (scrub)
Noah Sewell (depth at best)
Terrell Smith (depth with some potential)
Austin Booker (depth)
Ryan Bates (can't see the field)
6-7th rounds
Only 2 are on the roster, including players that were traded for with 6th round picks.
In terms of finding starters, out of 19 picks, Poles found 2 including a punter. Without the punter, Poles is hitting on 5% of his mid to late round picks. For comparison, Pace in his first 3 seasons found 4 starters out of 14 picks giving him a 28% success rate. Jerry Angelo in his first 3 seasons found 5 including a perennial all-pro out of 21 for a 23% rate. The only recent GM with as bad of a rate on late round picks is Phil Emery, who also hit on only 2 mid/late round picks which also happen to be a low end starting LT in Charles Leno and punter in Pat O'Donnell. Emery's hit rate is 2 out of 14, since he had less picks to work with he wound up with 7% if you don't count the punter.
For real, Poles is one of the worst of the recent Bears GMs at drafting.
