Bids for the posting fee for Japanese Ace Yu Darvish are due today.

Darvish has been discussed previously and it appears that the Cubs, along with most major market teams, will be in on the blind bidding process. My understanding is that bids are due today and then within a week or two the winner will the announced. The "winner" is allowed something like an exclusive 30 day period to complete an agreement with Darvish for his services.

Still I don't believe that the Cubs will "win" the bid as experience of Japanese pitchers in the MLB has not been stellar as Theo is well aware with DiceK.

So 2 questions: Whats the amount of the winning bid? And, which team provides it?

I am hoping and praying that the Rangers win the big and are awarded Darvish for 55 million posting and a contract worth 55 million.

That should take them out of the Prince Fielder bidding and make that more economical for the Cubs.

I think this is the real Cubs target, not Fielder

I didn't think of it that way..

I think the three teams making the strongest bid for Darvish will be Texas, Seattle and the Yankees. Texas will win the bid with a post offer of $52 million and a contract of 5-years $60 million dollars.

Depending on how high the bid is, the Japanese team may reject it, but if it's Dice-K high, I think they'll announce it ASAP.

My gut says this weekend... As they want to contemplate the decision. But if they want the money asap, it could be tomorrow. You never know.

Also, I've seen it in a post already, but I don't think the Yanks are in on Darvish. I still say the Rangers, with the Orioles as a sleeper.

I've only seen or heard two things about the Cubs and Darvish today. The Score reported that Phil Rogers said the Cubs did bid on Darvish (which really wasn't a surprise), but the discussion seemed to be that it wasn't going to be enough to win.

BleacherNation tweeted this an hour ago though:
#Cubs source couldnt share amount, but offered this on team's Darvish bid: "I wouldn't be surprised if we won."
