As long as Scott's only playing 9-10min a game he'll be fine.
Obviously he's not a top 4 guy. He did play well tonight.

Did your little niece have a blast seeing her boy Kane in live action?

I thought he got beat badly at the blue line.
He was beaten badly and totally misplayed that sequence. Coaches saw that too as his time was pretty limited thereafter.

Skille made his case tonight... played hard and made things happen. Still a lot of time left, but good for him. I also think Scott did well, and think Pisani could be a good role player on the 3rd or 4th line.

Yea saw the start of the play finally and that was pretty bad. Initially all I saw him was trying to tie up the stick, didn't realize he misplayed it that bad initially.

Skille played really hard tonight and had a great showing. I'd be surprised if Makarov and Morin made the team, perhaps one of them can do it but I really think Rockford is best for both right now.

If either of them makes it I won't complain at all, I just don't see any room really. Stalberg is going to make it, Bickell too, Dowell is needed for the 4th line C, Potulny will probably make it as a reserve guy... Skille, Mak, and Morin will battle it out but I don't see either of them edging Skille out if Jack continues to hustle like that.

Finally! Because really, I was feeling he just was never going to find the hunger or desperation or whatever motivation to fight for a spot and take his compete level to another setting like say Bickell. I was just saying in the chat the other night in regards to him that one has to make their own fate so good on the kid. Perhaps it's been a blessing for him that kids like Morin and Makarov came in guns blazing and legitimately challenging for spots, getting all the press, etc. because it seems to have forced him to think about what he wants and start making it happen for himself. This was a more than satisfying game from him. . .and honestly, pleasantly surprising.

Skille has always played hard. His salary played a big role in his inability to be called up.

I would agree he's always hustled, but the difference tonight was the payoff in making things happen too. It wasn't just hustle and speed, but he saw results too. While I like what Pisani brings to the table, I thought Jack could have been #1 star.

Never said he hasn't played hard. I am talking about doing that something "more" than just playing hard---elevating or dazzling up one's game when the spotlight is on you and seizing your moment (or roster spot) which frankly he hasn't done in several prospects camp-to-training camp-to-preseason cycles IMO. His development IMO, has been on the longish side. Fair or not, expectations are always higher for 1st Rounders and especially those chosen in the top 10---considering players chosen ahead of him and after him in the 2005 draft class by comparison he's been trending at best sideways by always being the bridesmaid for the Hawks at the end of the pre-season and never the bride making the team. But whatever, in the end if it's all working out now then I am pleased for him and the Hawks.

Re Forwards:

Thought Skille, Pisane, Makarov and Potulny had good games, especially Skille and Makarov. If those two play well, it'll go a long way to lessening losing Versteeg. Speaking of alliteration it was hilarious to hear "Pisani to Potulny back to Pisani" (say that ten times quick).

Re D-men:

Lalonde getting beat and then knocking in the puck with his stick should be the final nail in his preordained coffin for not making the final cut. Thought Scott looked fairly solid, except for not keeping the puck in the offensive zone on one occasion, and he made some nice hits.

Re Turco:

Great puck handling (though technically can't, did deserve an assist on the first goal and would have had one on the Dowell breakaway off the post) and some timely saves without any of the anxiety and handwringing Huet, and to a lesser extant, Niemi provided Hawks fans last season.

well Osgood kept his AHL team in the game early.

Lalonde, was beaten bad. Really bad. Cost a goal.

Skille, Makarov, Pisani had really good games.

Anyone see Turcos outlet pass for the Goal?? Thats what he brings to the table NO other goalie we've had does. Just WOW. Shame he didn't get an assist, BUT he did get Kaner skating back to say atta boy!

This team is going to be very good.

Skille had maybe his best game as a Hawk so far and man does Makarov have hands. He probably made the best moves, with no results. There was a play late in the 3rd he jocked two wings on his way to a shot on Osgood.

Osgood played well and was the only reason the Hawks didnt have 8 goals. His trip on Skille in the 3rd, with no call of course, was wicked. Skille flew 8-10ft....

How could I forget? Shame on me. That was awesome, and I can't help but think as the Hawks get more accustomed to utilizing Turco's puck-handling & passing abilities that it is going to be scary...

Yup. The potential. . .it's SO damn exciting people! I haven't felt this giddy about an off-season and then pre-season in years!

It's also going to be be SO gratifying to see all the internet forums armchair GMs suck on it when they are forced to realize the Haws haven't been "decimated" and "gutted" beyond all Playoffs recognition because they lost important and skilled ROLE players---the way fans from other teams whinge on about the Hawks cap woes you'd think Stan traded away 2/3's of the core or something. The Hawks making them all STFU is indeed going to be some sweet icing on the cake.

I was disappointed in Lalonde. That was the worst play on a rush that could have been done. Not sure if I noticed it because it was coming right down our way or what, but it was bad. He definitely needs time.

I disagree with Ton 100%. Makarov and Morin are ready now. Now where they find a place for them I don't know. I'd rather have either of them play with the top line guys than Kopecky and I'm a kopecky fan.

Makarov just crushed a Wang like a bug against the glass in front of us. Thought they were going to have to fix the glass after the hit it was so hard.
