IDK I listened for a couple of minutes and the media asked who will make the final decision for the HC hire and Warren kinda skirted the question a couple of times but the media guy kept asking until Warren said that Poles has the final say (on record)

Yea, he said poles handles all "football related ops" and that they would both have say. Then they asked what if the opinions are split who gets final say. I still doubt it would be poles, luckily i doubt it will ever come to that.

I didn't see the press conference. This is very disappointing to hear. Why is the media soft on these guys?

If Warren is taking a larger role in football decisions that is a clear sign to Poles that he is on the hot seat and needs to get the next year or two right.

They weren't soft as much towards poles. They had multiple additional questions but poles cut them off and ended the press conference early after the first difficult question he was asked(What went wrong with the waldron hire). Difficult to be hard when the presser ends early because Poles/Warren dont want to answer hard questions.

Poles wanted no part of that press conference, looked pissed the entire time. Thomas Brown was impressive.
That struck me as Poles trying not to shit all over the guy so he really paused to think about it as he had absolutely nothing good to say.

What pissed me off is the media clearly had plenty of real questions to poles and they just abruptly ended the press conference the moment the questions got difficult.

Maybe this is why Flus never took accountability for his multiple screw ups. The guys who hired him seem to take no accountability.

What does Warran know about hiring football coaches? He has zero history in the actual x’s and o’s of the sport.
That's not all that goes into hiring. Finding good people goes beyond just knowing all the x's and o's. Not everyone in the room has to be a guru of the game. Some can be focused on other traits/skills.

yep

if x's and o's are all that mattered for a head coach then trestman would have been amazing and morons like dan campbell would be terrible.

Motivation and leading are really the most important factors to being a successful nfl head coach, not surprising that kevin warren has no clue what a leader looks like since he was hired to lead the stadium project and it hasnt gone anywhere in 2 years now.

IMO, the most successful leaders are those that surround themselves with smart driven people.

To me, the lack of accountability that Eberflus was as much a cultural issue as a personal flaw. Poles has avoided answering hard questions and personally reflecting and holding himself accountable. I would've loved a media person to read back Poles quote on why he kept Eberflus (Summary: he was impressed that he didn't lose the locker room during the losing streak last year and that he was focused on the details) and then ask Poles, what do you think you missed during that assessment and how will you change how you look for the next head coach? At this point in time Poles needs to go. I was ready to cut him last year once he retained Eberflus while Harbaugh, Belichik and Vrable were options on the table but the minute Poles committed to Eberflus, his time in Chicago should match his coach and should be shown the door now.

Ironically, after the botched Washington post-game press conference, Eberflus did try to pivot (likely received some feedback) and started always saying he was responsible for everything which then just makes the accountability a talk track and not actually something that results in improvements to the team.

I actually agree with this.

A caller on the score today echoed a thought I had - It's basically entirely possible that the McCaskeys had a version of nepotistic relationship with Trace Armstrong given how many of his people were employed as coaches and GM, and possibly for other positions within the organization.

I am wondering if Kevin Warren is now setting about cleaning all of that bullshit up. You can't exactly come out and say you're doing it, but if Warren is going to be a larger voice, I wonder how many years Trace Armstrong has been messing with things. The relationship between him and the McCaskeys goes really far back.

As for the impetus of why now - I think the bears are going to sell sooner rather than later and they want a winner to maximize the sale value. None of them McCaskey kids want the Bears; they want their inheritance cut and to split.
