Jack Conklin as a possible top-12 pick?

Jack Conklin - T - Spartans
Tony Pauline writes "insiders" believe a run on Ts at the top of the draft could land Michigan State T Jack Conklin in the top 12 overall.
Conklin would join Laremy Tunsil and Ronnie Stanley, per Pauline, as top 12 selections. The reasoning? The weak talent pool in free agency at the position. We would add not just in free agency, but across the league. "Value" and "reach" are used too frequently... but Conklin in the top half of the first-round likely qualifies.

I am on the Conklin bandwagon, some scouts think he's the best OT in the draft after Tunsil. He bullied Buckner when they went head-to-head. Great size/length, more athletic you'd think and hella strong; an immediate upgrade over Leno. It may seem like a reach but you can honestly say that about most players after the top guys are gone.

I think there is a number of players that the Bears would feel comfortable with and could fall to them.

Hargreaves, Robinson, Elliot, ....Wentz might even be there.

I don't think cline is a slam dunk in the first round, unless Buckner falls I think Stanley, Hargreaves, Elliot are better prospects than Robinson. Some experts are calling a'shaun a 2 down player. I think the wildcard for the Bears could be Sheldon Rankins.

The wild card is Floyd. He seems like the type that Fangio likes at OLB

Karl Joseph top DB on the board?

Karl Joseph - DB - Mountaineers
West Virginia S Karl Joseph is the draft's top overall DB, according to ESPN's Louis Riddick.
This is exceptionally high praise form an evaluator who knows quite a bit about defensive back play. For Riddick, the WVU defender checks all of the boxes, "versatile, competitive, run support, blitz, tackle, zone pattern recognition, man skills, ball skills." Joseph has always been known as a hard hitter, but previously missed a number of tackles in the alleys as the last line of defense. However, during his injury shortened senior season, he displayed improvement in that area.

I firmly Believe he's a top 10 talent. If he can make a full recovery he could end up being the biggest defensive Impact player from this class. He does so many things well it's scary.

He's as good as I've seen since E.Thomas. who I was also really high on while many were riding the Taylor Mays hype train.

We don't need injury concerns at eleven.

You didn't, but the above looks rather suspect.

I have no idea where he's at medically Right now and ive never been the type to say **** it, draft so and so anyways and hope they can recover.

I simply pointed out his talent. Which is undeniable.

True that, I said that I thought Jaylon Smith was a steal at eleven, until we learned how bad his knee was.

It all depends on recovery. There are Todd Gurleys and Marcus Latimores. At this point I just want a solid starter with our first pick.

I don't see Pace "reaching" for a DB at #11....

Me thinks "beastly DT or Pass Rusher."
I don't think Hargreaves would be a reach at all at #11. He's a much better prospect than Robinson, Ragland, Lawson and some of the other names being thrown around

My biggest problem with Hargreaves were his last two games were awful and I can't get them out of my head. He looked absolutely lost and exposed versus Michigan. It was as if Harbaugh saw a matchup he liked and exploited it in a big way. That possibility doesn't sit well with me at all.

Yea I like the guy at #11 if Stanley and Buckner are gone. He did have that terrible game thou. But the whole package of everything says otherwise. Do you know the combine numbers

I think I found a late round special teamer that Trevathan can take under his wing. James Burgess- ILB Louisville. He ran a ~4.57 40 at his pro day. Check out this highlight reel. The guy is violent.

He doesn't look very big.

I looked up his H/W, he's 5'11" and 227#'s. He can fly, so maybe that's a guy you look at later on. He looked lighter than 227 in that highlight video.

edit: just looked up his nfl draft profile and noticed his pro day 40 times are in the 4.6's, not the 4.57 you list. Not sure where you got your number, but they list 4.61 and 4.65. I mean the kid looks like he's good in coverage and plays downhill, so he has that going for him.

He was interviewed at his pro day and he said 4.57. He also said he weighed 236 lbs. 4.61-4.65 is still good. What's impressive is that he applys it on the field well. Doesn't seem like he's just a workout warrior.

Carson Wentz - QB - Bison
ESPN's Jon Gruden called North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz the most NFL ready QB he's met with in the last few years.
Gruden meets with all of the top quarterback prospects each season for his television series. At the very least this places Wentz over Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota in this area. Again, keep in mind that part of Gruden's job is to promote his upcoming episodes and he has become known for being optimistic on every prospect, but place the former head coach in the camp that is on the Wentz Wagon.

I agree, but not sure where the 4.57 came from, officially from his pro day that's not what he ran. I wonder if a scout or a Louisville coach told him that and he ran with it as his official time? He does display closing speed on film that you like to see from a LB.

He's projected as a 7th rounder so I'm sure his game tape isn't very good but whoever produced that highlight reel did a good job displaying his potential.
