Watch a game once in awhile. Babcock is continually regarded as the best coach in the NHL.

What made up scenario? In debating where Q ranks among other coaches in the league?

Go to the visor thread and whine about other pussy stuff....I don't give a **** about your opinion on anything. You go on about shit that doesn't effect anything on the ice...because you have no fucking idea about that part of the game.

Variatroll making another lame attempt to annoy

Notice he said nothing to Rex who brought up Therian? Probably doesn't even know who he is....and if googling him to see if he wears a visor or is a proponent of fighting

not getting on the Q vs Babcock thing, but I think the Babcock love stems from him taking a crappy Anaheim team to game 7 of the cup final in 03 (though they did just ride an insanely hot goalie)

He also has Olympic Gold and World Championship gold.

with that being said, when Detroit hired him, I expected a hell of a lot more out of him than just one cup, what with the roster he had.

and I still think that one of the best coaches (Ted Nolan) not even being in the league is a joke. But I digress.

He really must have pissed a lot of people off...it's crazy about him - not even an assistant anywhere (or maybe he wouldn't want that)

he was branded a "GM Killer" since he was fired in Buffalo (After winning the Jack Adams no less)

I think he's turned down assistant jobs in the past. He seems like a guy who values commitment. He was offered a head coaching job in the NHL that he turned down because he was head coach of a QMJHL team, and it was midway through the season. he said it wouldn't be fair to the team he was already coaching.

but yeah, four Memorial Cup appearances, and he also took two terrible NHL teams into the playoffs, yet he doesn't have a job. It's crazy.

Now we wait for someone to pull up his NHL Coaching stats, and claim he's no good.

I also thought it was insane that Therrien had to wait for six years to get another head coaching job. He was fired after taking his team to the Cup Finals for Christ sake. I guess there is no room for the hardass coach anymore.

Wasn't he labeled "difficult" in both BUFF (which was a bad blowup with Muckler I think)....and in NY as well? I don't think the whole story ever came out...and I think he's publicly said he's been trying to get back in the NHL but no luck

I think the NYI thing was just him taking the fall when a new GM joined (Snow) and the team under performed. I don't think there were issues there like there was in Buffalo.

Can't really say the Penguins made the wrong move though by firing Therrien, considering they won the Cup the following season.

Sure...Leddy, Shaw, Kruger, Saad...all pretty much right to the NHL without much/if any AHL time.

And the "poised to break out" - were Toews/Kane...who were 19/20yr olds when Q got here

Helm - 120gms in the AHL

Abdelkader - 126gms in the AHL

Filppula - 147gms in the AHL

Those players were allowed to develop in the minors

I agree with Therrian as well. He and even Carlyle did similar jobs.

MaClean while losing Andersson a bit, had 2 other NHL starting goalies in line with Lehner and Bishop. While I agree he should (and will) win it...it's not a runaway IMO

The TEAM was poised to break out and be great. He inherited a team with the following players:

Toews

Kane

Keith

Seabrook

Sharp

Campbell

Ladd

Byfuglien

Havlat

Q is not a bad coach, but put shit into perspective here. He has never had to coach this team up. Have the Hawks overachieved or underachieved more under his watch? What's the difference between the Red Wings this year and the Hawks in 2010-2011 or 2011-2012? The Wings' top guns are aging while most of the Hawks' top players are in their prime or entering their prime.

The Pens won the Cup the same season Therrien was replaced by Bylsma.

Toews and Kane were 2nd year players at 19/20 yrs old respectively - and the Hawks the previous year had 88pts, in 10th place. Trending up? Yes...but lets look at what Babcock inherited...to "put things into perspective".

DET had best record in the NHL the year before he took over...was 2nd the year before that. And that roster he inherited?

Datsyuk, Zetteberg, Shanahan, Lidstrom, Lang, Holmstrom, Schnieder, Williams, Yzerman, Draper, Franzen, Cleary, Maltby, Chelios, Kronwall (R)

Kronwall was the only rookie that year out of that group. He was given a core of HOF'ers. Also sprinkle in Hossa, Stuart and Rafalski in his tenure there. I can't find a team he had where they had to either rebuild on the fly (which the Hawks had to do in the last 2 years) - or where he had actual rookie/first year pro's step into the team and expect to contribute...where Q has done successfully (Saad, Kruger, Shaw, Leddy)

So what you're saying is, neither coach has done anything amazing with the rosters they have had in their careers? Agreed 100%.

Well, both have won Cups and have had pretty long tenures/careers so far...so that's pretty good.

I just think he gets way too much praise...and it continues to be played up by the hockey media...on "all Babcock has done with a 'young' roster". He lost Lidstrom (which yes, ridiculously good). But they still only finished 7th

Coaches everywhere else have young (and younger) rosters without 2 of the best 2 way players (Datsyuk and Zetteberg)....and they don't get the same tire pumping Babcock has gotten this year.

Right, my wording was off. Still, the Pens made the right move by canning Therrien mid-season, and replacing him with Bylsma. If they didn't make that move, Pens may have missed the playoffs entirely that year.

Are we sure that isn't of his own accord? I love the way Ted Nolan coaches, but I think he prefers being away from the spotlight.

I still like Kevin Constantine as well, yet no one ever has interest.
