I'm not so sure about this but Buster Olney might of implied the Cubs could have interest in Carl Crawford.

I think signing Carl Crawford will be a better signing than Dunn, Pena and Martinez. The Cubs need a base stealer more than anything. Then, maybe the Cubs will try Colvin at 1B and see if he succeds. And, hope he does.

CC is 29 years old and is batting .305/.357/.487/.845. And, what I like the most 44SB and has only been caught 10 times.

The lineup could be then:
1) CC RF
2) Castro SS
3) Byrd CF
4) Ramirez 3B
5) Soto C
6) Colvin 1B
7) Soriano LF
8) DeWitt-Barney 2B
9) Pitcher P

That means, Kosuke and Baker will be gone.

Then, maybe sign Nady to be the 4th OF and backup 1B. Platoon with Colvin but Colvin plays a little more than just half. However, Nady will have to play more because that's when he's at his best.

I think CC will get a 4 year contract worth 12-14M per. I don't think he will get as much because the Yanks are out, the Angels don't have a ton of money, the Rre Sox have it but I don't thibk they will spend as much as usual. The White Sox are pretty much maxed out and they probably want to sign Konerko and AJ. Then, the Cubs will have enougth money for him. They sign CC, RP's. They should save money on Kosuke when he's dealt and Baker. The could save about 1M is Hill is non-tender.

Here's where I found the Olney news:

FYI: Multiple AL, NL evaluators say they view Carl Crawford as clear No. 1 free agent outfield option.Werth is coveted, but a distant 2nd.

Twitter / Buster Olney: FYI: Multiple AL, NL evalu ...

The expectation among those evaluators is that the Red Sox and Angels will be among the most aggressive, with Chicago teams in, NYY out

Thoughts?

I actually really like that line up. It's got depth and there really isn't much to complain about. Crawford would be a super addition, but I really think before we go signing more outfielders, we figure out the 1B situation, and see if we can get some direly need middle relief pitching. Marshall and Cashner make good setups, and Marmol is one of the best closers, and we have solid starters, but our middle relief blows. I mean unless we sign Nady to a 2-3 year deal and have him at 1B then have Colvin for OF off days, etc.

Ree-hee-heaaaallllyyyy? Interesting. So rotation is Dempster, Wells, Gorzo, Z or Silva (?), and Cashner?

But that still doesn't change the fact we need middle relief pitching.

Middle RP????? Hell yeah, I think that's the biggest need going into the season.

Gorzo could be a RP, Wells could be a RP, Silva who knows but I don't see SP. Levine thinks JJ could be in it and maybe Archer.

SP rotation: Z (Levine thinks he will be traded with strong finish), Demp, JJ, Cashner and Archer.

RP: Marmol, Marshall, Gorzo, Silva, Wells, Maine, RP. I think Maine could be good, but I think Gorzo will be starter along with Wells (even though I'm not a big fan) and I don't know that they will do with Silva; release, trade, starter, RP. Who knows.....

If it were up to me, Archer would be relief and Wells and Gorzo would just stay as starters.

Yeah, I agree I have no idea what is going to be done with Silva and Z. They'll either be starters or be traded, in my opinion.

I mean Archer probably will be better RP than those 2 and a good one but I also think he will be a better starter than Wells by far and better than Gorzo. However, if they strike out on RP and are desperate, that might be a move they will have to make.

Why should we take our top starting pitching prospect and ruin his value? We just pulled that stunt with Cashner, it hasn't worked out too well.

If Archer isn't ready for the big leagues out of Spring Training, he should be in the minor leagues starting games until he's ready to join the MLB rotation.

Were talking about the Cubs front office. They do that all the time and won't stop doing that. Cashner, Samardzija and their have been more. Also, there been position players they ruined too.

Like moving Brett Jackson to right field...

At some point the Cubs will realize how dumb the role shifting is. The whole Z thing should have been their wakeup call.

Jay Jackson did the "bullpen test" this year, and it basically fucked up 2 months of his season.

Look what happened when Samardzija finally got a stable role. I still don't think he's any good, but once they committed to him being a starter, he at least produced solid results.

I'm not going to pretend like I know anything about Archer, or any of our pitching prospects for that matter. But as of right now, we don't need starting pitchers, we need relief. And I don't think Cashner has been "ruined," he's holding his own and minus a few bad games, he's been pretty good.

And regardless of his current trend, Samardzija sucks. He's fooling us right now, but he'll make the roster next year and get routine colonoscopies.
