Chicago Cubs: GM vacancy affecting Aramis Ramirez negotiations? - chicagotribune.com

Ramirez talks stalled?

The Cubs' general manager vacancy could cost them the services of veteran third baseman Aramis Ramirez, according to his agent.

"I am sure it is going to affect (negotiations) until I find out who is going to be running the show and where they intend to go," said Paul Kinzer, who was on his last day of a vacation in the Caribbean on Wednesday. "We have no idea where they are headed now. With Jim (Hendry, who was fired Aug. 19), I had a good idea. We would have been more likely to re-sign with them if Jim was here.

"It doesn't look like anything like that is going to happen. It has always been No. 1 for (Ramirez) to stay in Chicago, but he might see what's out there at this point. I am going to be (in Chicago) in the next week or so to sit down with him and we will have some discussion."

Kinzer added that the 33-year-old Ramirez would be looking for a multi-year deal.

You all know how I feel about Rammy :)

I actually dont remember lol

Cant blame A-Ram for wanting to see which way Cubs go. He getting up there in age and dont want to rebuild.
Say that then instead of saying you'd be likely to stay with Hendry.

These are the little things that perturb me about Rammy.

Im just scared if Rammy leaves who be the 3B next year. They better just go young over bringing a old horrible vet guy.

Marlon Byrd for 3B! :shifty:

Actually, I do believe that Koyie Hill has played 3B once in his career...

I think it's safe to say that Aramis Ramirez is a better 3B than Koyie Hill, legendary as he might be.

Of course he does. He's relatively cheap and doesn't completely suck.

i just dont see us getting anything good in return. He hasnt been that great this year, granted he was on the DL for a good portion of the year though.

Honestly what i think Cubs would do is play DeWitt vs RHP and Baker vs LHP at 3B next year if A-Ram leaves. Do that till Vitters ready

Apparently I am suppose to check out this thread. The options for 3B next year are terrible both internally and externally. That is the main reason I've been in favor of bringing Ramirez back. If we had a GM that was actually committed to a long term rebuild plan I wouldn't mind watching a Baker/Dewitt or Flaherty platoon next year, but since I highly doubt that is going to happen I will probably be upset when they let Ramirez go.

Get David Wright, trade Byrd for a bag of baseballs, 2 tubs of Dubble Bubble and 3 cases of David Sunflower seeds.
