Someone else besides Aramis Ramirez :deer: preferably a prospect.

It depends what the team does. If they go young yes i want Vitters playing. If they decide to spend the money they have coming off the books then i want A-Ram. A-Ram is top 3 hitting 3B in baseball. The Cubs offense is already horrible, imagine it withouth him.

I get that, but until you give me an option that the Cubs could legitimately have playing 3rd base that is better than Ramirez my opinion will remain the same.

Right now the internal option would be a platoon involving Jeff Baker and either Blake DeWitt or Ryan Flaherty. If you think that makes this team better you are crazy.

Vitters makes Ramirez look like a gold glover at 3rd, and there are serious questions about his bat still. He might still make it, but I think his future is dependent on developing more power than he has shown and a transition to a corner OF spot.

Well an older Rammy doesn't make the Cubs that much better. The Cubs can only go up from here.

That seems to be the key point that you are missing. The other options aren't inherently better, and are most likely worse than Ramirez. Like I said give me an option at 3rd base that would be an improvement and I would more than willing to kick Ramirez to the curb. Right now that option doesn't exist for the Cubs.

So the Cubs are going to get worse if Ramirez leaves?

I don't think Ramirez makes that much of a difference.

Have you not been watching this summer? A-Ram has been the BEST Cubs hitter by mile. BEST 3B in baseball hitting wise. So going to DeWitt/Baker platoon is AWFULL!! So to answer your question would Cubs be worse without Ramirez. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

If your point of Ramirez not making that much of a difference is that having him or not having him determines this team getting the playoffs, then I agree. However, the point I've been trying to make is that losing Ramirez at this point would mean downgrading a position on this team. We need to be improving not going the other way.*

*That is unless this team was actually going to rebuild. I don't think it is necessary, but if there was a legitimate plan to go young I wouldn't have a problem with LaMahieu and Flaherty getting the bulk of time at 3B. However, I really doubt that Ricketts or the new GM will be willing to go that route.

I dont see Cubs going into full rebuild mode either. I also dont see them spending major in FA so basically we going to stay the way its going and sign mediocre players while trying to bring up 1 or 2 kids per year. I wish Cubs would just pick 1 way to go though. Either GO YOUNG or spend the money to win like they did in 2007

Im just scared if Rammy leaves who be the 3B next year. They better just go young over bringing a old horrible vet guy.

But who do you have? Your options are Vitters (bad defense and simply not ready yet offensively), M. Smith (up and down numbers for the past 3 years in AAA, but an excellent defender), Baker (do we really want to see him struggle against righties for an entire season?), DeWitt (not sure if he has the arm, but worth a shot if nothing else goes through), Flaherty (begun to lose value as a prospect the past couple of years from struggling when promoted... and is better suited for 2B), and Moore (struggled severely in his 4 shots at the show).

I agree the internal options aren't pretty, but the external options are about as bad. When Mark DeRosa might be the most appealing free agent than it is a weak class.

I like DeRosa, but he is a pretty bad option as an everyday 3B at this point in his career.

I think the Cubs squeezed all the WAR out of DeRosa that he was ever going to give :D

I agree. there's a good chance that the Mets will shop Wright again this winter, as they did before he got injured this year. But, how much will he cost? I really don't see anyone else giving up a solid 3B. I thought the Rangers might, but they traded away the guy putting pressure on Young, plus he adapted well to the DH spot. The FA market is scary, with Edwin Encarnacion as probably the 2nd best behind ARam, and he has a cheap option that will most likely be exercised. Behind him is... Cantu, DeRosa, Chavez... all guys that just won't make the grade anymore.

#Cubs Ramirez said he "probably" has played his last game as a Cub at Wrigley, saying it looks like he'll hit the market.
