One thing we're likely to see it seems like is the cubs trading for IFA slot money. They have just a touch under $5 mil they can spend without having to acquire more money(max they can get is $8.7 mil). Richard Gallardo is supposedly the top pitcher in the class according to some. However, Jose Lopez is expected to get more than him as a potential 5 tool CF. He's supposedly asking around $1.5 mil. Top pitcher not named Ohtani last year got $1.4 mil. So between those two you're likely talking close to $3 mil. Rafael Morel is another position player they are linked to who may get ~$800k. And the are linked to another pitcher Joel Machado who's the best LHP in the class according to mlb.com. I'm guessing Machado gets something in the $500-700k range but that's purely a guess. For the sake of argument, let's call that $4.25 mil combined. They are going to sign some $10k guys to fill out their DSL squad for next year(they have 2). You might also see 1 or 2 more guys in the $100-500k range.

Where this gets a bit more interesting is the late entry of Victor Victor Mesa. He's the best cuban IFA since Yoan Moncada. He's a gold glove type CF who's supposedly comparable to Victor Robles. Top IFA last year(excluding ohtani) got $3.825 mil. However that was more your typical IFA who's locked up early in the process where as Mesa is probably more like Julio Pablo Martinez who was another cuban who showed up some what late. Martinez got $2.8 mil.

So, that's something to keep an eye on the next month or so.

LOS ANGELES -- Yu Darvish's bullpen session on Thursday did not go well.

The Cubs right-hander felt pain in his right arm, according to manager Joe Maddon, and he'll return to Chicago to determine the next step.

This pretty much sums up the trade deadline honestly

The radio talk this morning is do you want LA to get Machado. Make a trade to keep him from LA? Look at what the seeger subs have done, what did Pat just say, 24 home runs and 60 RBI's? Sounds like getting Machado would be a slap in the face to those guys, just like the cubs do.

With Darvish return questionable now

The question is do they make a move to bring in a TOR like DeGrom or Hamels to help match up with the top 3 of teams like the Nats etc in the playoff..

Not sure if a move for a SP would exhaust trade pieces for a position player like Machado ..

There was a doctor on the score 670 a few days ago talking aboot the fact that there will always be some pain in the arm, and for Darvish to expect his throwing arm to feel the same as his left arm is completely unrealistic.

More then that though..

You hear about how he didnt want to come out if the dugout or be on the top steps at Dodger stadium because he was afraid of getting booed..

Cubs would have to make sure he doesn't pitch in LA if they face them in playoffs..

Guy has some mental issues beyond the injury

Or you don't understand japanesse culture. This is a culture where seppuku is a thing. Japanesse people in general take any sort of failure way harder than amercians.

Ehhh..

Even if that the case, then the cubs still have 5 more years of a guy who if he struggles will curl himself up in a corner to hide from the fans ..

So, either way it a problem

He's human. Humans have emotion. Just because he actually talks about his emotions rather than bottling them up doesn't make him a "head case." Fans like you are the reason all you ever get out of sports figures is canned answers like taking things one game at a time. You think Addy's divorce last year didn't mess him up mentally? La Stella wanted to quit baseball because he was demoted. Both are fine now and not "head cases."

Divorce case ended...
Demotion ended...

Darvish having bad games, playoff series etc may not end..

If he still cant get over a bad game, series he had 10 months ago on a different team what makes you think he'll get over the bad games he had here or whatever bad game or games he'll have in the next 5 years...

It not just about feeling bad about the series he had 10 months ago, it still affecting him now and how he been pitching.
He lost confidence in himself
He didn't want to be seen by the fans

He worried cubs fans hate him because of his start here..

So, unless he can win every game and dont lose in the playoff, he going to be affected by what fans and writers say about him..

That an issue, not sure how you can think otherwise
