But 40 man:

First guy I see bumped is Tseng if they add.. I would add Clifton myself. 2nd is Rob Zastryzny. Neither are major or minor factors going forward.

But combined:

Clifton: 6-6 3.37 ERA 46 BB 93 SO kinda the guy who deserves the opportunity. I expect a dip with a promote which maybe the reason for them not putting him on the 40 this year. 1.13 WHIP AA 1.30 AAA so I would expect a 1.50+ at the Majors. So they maybe more inclined to leave him off and let him get a full 30 starts at AAA before deciding.

Underwood: 4-10 4.33 ERA 35 BB 97 SO middle of the road IMO
Mills: 5-12 4.84 ERA 41 BB 108 SO This guy is filler IMO. Not much upside. Straily is a peak projection.

Maples should come up and I can see Mazzoni etc up again. Mekkes is intriguing also but I'm putting him in Clifton's box. Both off the 40 and they would have to lose someone on it to add. Less likely. I really can see Tseng and Zast axed. So in theory you could but if they have Hancock/Smyly on the 60 also. They if healthy would get the first shot.

But expected promotes:

Underwood
Mills
Farrell

Maples
Mazzoni
Norwood

Bubble guys
Tseng
Zast

off 60 day?
Smyly
Hancock

current 10 day DL:
Duensing
Montgomery
Morrow

Guys that they can add:
Clifton
Mekkes

Allen Webster is Cubs den pick. Seems he was a guy that bounced around some. Pitched some at the majors. But he is upper 90's with a good breaking pitch. Might end up a unexpected 60 man add.

Shocked if he made it that far.

I wouldn't be. He'd be strictly a pinch hitter in the NL and a lot of teams would shy off because of the money, he's due just about $7 mil the rest of the year. What we're saying is that Atlanta, Philly, Arizona, Milwaukee, LA, Arizona, Colorado and St. Louis would have passed on him . The only one on that list I would think might claim him is Colorado.

Agree..

Only other team outside the cubs that i heard might be interested were AL teams, like the Yankees

So... it a good possibility , the cubs made this claim and it would make sense given Russell injury...

It's been reported that the Yankees are not the team who claimed him.

Do you know why Alzolay needs to stay on the 40 man roster if he is not supposed to be throwing again til next year? Did they just not 60 day DL him?

It would be a little un-Cubs like under Theo but there's been some noise that they could try Matt Swarmer out of AA for a start. The kid is having a breakout season and has been on fire his last 7 starts.

Raises the percentage of cubs chances

Doesn’t work that way. Goes same league first. Then off league 2nd on priority.

Basically every team ‘bids’ and highest bid wins. Or worst record same to best. Then worst off league to best.

If the Cubs bid and that is a if I would think it would be a block vs anything else. AL don’t matter here

I really don’t know why. If it is a rules issue or what. I personally think that they shut him down with out doctors backing honestly and that is why they couldn’t. Pulled lat seemed minor for a season shut down imo.

Doubt it honestly. Most of these kids are on a innings limit. Anyone brought up would be on pitch restrictions.

Francisco Liriano, Jose Iglesias & Jordan Zimmermann, Tigers (link): It was a 100 percent certainty that Zimmermann, still owed $55.9MM through 2020 (including the remainder of this year’s salary) would clear waivers. Even with improved results this season (4.36 ERA, 7.9 K/9, 1.6 BB/9 in 88 2/3 innings), there’s virtually no hope of the Tigers shedding that salary this month. It was less certain that rentals like Liriano or Iglesias would clear, however. Liriano’s ERA ballooned to 4.72 last night after he was roughed up by the Twins, but he’s held left-handed pitching to a terrible .141/.247/.239 slash through 81 plate appearances. With $984K still owed to him through the end of the year, he’d be a reasonably affordable lefty specialist for a contending team’s bullpen. As for Iglesias, it seems quite likely that he’ll be moved to a contender. He’s hitting a respectable, albeit unspectacular .264/.306/.389 while playing terrific defense at shortstop. He’s owed $1.54MM of his $6.275MM salary through season’s end.

If you think those contracts are ugly, take a gander at what they're paying Miguel Cabrera.

Through 2023.

Yikes.

Harper has been claimed. This will be interesting. If you're Washington and you can't make a deal do you revoke waivers and pull them back or let them go? Just Harper and Murphy along would save you close to $10 mil

Any word who won the claim on Harper? I doubt the Cubs got him. LAD/Azl/Phi/Atl/Mil/Stl would block

But I would pay Happ strait. Move Heyward to stating CF and Rizzo back to lead off. Perfect storm and that is why you block that

Nope no word on who it was or whether the claim was yesterday or today. The Murphy claim was said to be Sunday though so if true the deadline for a trade has passed.
