re: all this talk, it's entirely plausible that Russell may go to the DL but if he doesn't you could just as easily move Baez to 3B assuming Bryant is out for awhile. Overall, if you like Murphy as a hitter it was a pretty cheap get.

That's what I was thinking. They clearly don't want to rely solely on Bote, and Murphy is a hedge against that and buys them time to wait for Bryant by moving Baez to 3B. Also means we could see more Bryant in the OF when he comes back. Opens up a lot of flexibility.

It doesn't. Prior to the trade the CBT number was 192 mil. Add $4 mil and they're still under the $197 mil CBT.

I would keep Bote at 3B and Baez at SS and Murphy in a platoon with Zobrist. 2B is pretty stable then and LaStella is still the primary PH. Bote can cover SS if needed.

That is why I think Russell goes DL until rosters expand. Bote already is your back up and LaStella is your back up 3B

I don't think Bryant is done for the year. He's taking BP tonight. I wouldn't expect power out of him with the shoulder ailing but he'll give you quality AB. You don't make the Hamels and Murphy moves if you think KB doesn't come back. You don't win shit without him.

Everyone knows I am not a fan of LaStella, I would prefer him to be DFA's again and have Murphy as the primary pinch hitter when he does not start. To me that is the biggest upgrade. I highly doubt anyone claims LaStella, he has really fallen off, but there is also a PTBNL that has to go back to Washington too.
