The dialog was riveting. Like Mamet or Sorkin.

I still think the best actual moment of film making in any of the Star Wars movies was the Kylo vs Han confrontation: the star is being drained in the background while the dialogue occurs; a beam of light is cast through a port in the building illuminating the two on the catwalk; emo conversation ensues; when Kylo makes the decision to kill Han the star is drained completely (allegory for the extinguishing of the light in Kylo). That was a fucking brilliant piece of directing. Too bad they never manage to carry that kind of insight trough a whole movie.

I had the same take on Wind River.... wasn't a terrible movie, but the entire way thru they would hint what was gonna happen, then it would happen.

Someone replied to me that the thing in the credits was the point of the movie and I also argued the movie did nothing to expose that issue... if anything it creates a false sense that if any random Native American on a reservation dies mysteriously that an FBI agent or team will respond and take it seriously.
Same. It's not even that they would hint, they would outright tell ya. And obviously the makers of this movie have never heard of Wim Hof.

I enjoyed the New star wars, it was long and not as good as the last two that came out, but I think it had enough excitement to keep me entertained and led the story towards the final part of the trilogy which I am hoping turns out epic.

Elle is a horrible Euro trash film dressed as controversy, and social commentary. But it's shallow controversy, for the sake of controversy. Many are calling it bold, brave, honest, and some even go so far as to call it the most honest study of rape and sexual power in film. It's a crap movie by the guy who brought us Basic Instinct, and Black Book, a film about a Jewish woman victim of Nazis in WWII, seducing and falling in love with with a Gestapo official.

Isabelle Huppert getting lavish praise for a subpar and mugging performance. The world of film gets more depressing day by day.

Watched In a Valley of Violence the other day. Decent western, kind of in the vein of Unforgiven and the like. Probably a 6/10. Like I said, decent, but nothing special.
