I watched The Irishman on Wednesday night on Netflix. I had hoped to see it in theaters but watched it at home.
I thought it was very good, very well acted and a little bit of a departure for De Niro and Pesci in that the roles are more subdued than their past roles in Scorsese films.
I won’t go into details so as not to spoil anything although I don’t know that’s possible since it’s a story that we know how it turns out.
Slower paced than some of his other work. More deliberate. Bottom line is that I thought it was very well done and certainly worth watching and I believe people will enjoy it.
Some reviews called it Scorsese’s best. I wouldn’t necessarily go that far, but that’s no knock on it, given the body of work.
See it. You won’t be disappointed.
I had heard about this movie a few years back when they were begging Pesci to come out of retirement to do it.
I thought it was excellent.
I think Pacino may get an Oscar for his portrayal of Hoffa and Scorcese/Dinero could win for their direction.
I thought the music played went well with the scenes. I liked the reverse aging and aging effects.
I thought it was hilarious when Bobby Deniro is supposed to be in his 40's kicking ass outside the grocery store, but no effects could speed up his 70 year old kicks! I was laughing hard.
The movie brought a few thoughts regarding the mob and politics that I hadn't really known and really "paints" the picture of what happened to Hoffa and the Kennedy brothers.
I will watch again soon.
