Anybody watching Servant, the M Night series?
Saw episode 1. it's not bad.
Can't watch his stuff anymore. Same tricks used over and over again, constantly, to no consequence. It gets tired after a while.

I could not get beyond two episodes of this show, and switched off Knock at the Cabin after about half an hour. Sixth Sense worked at the time. Signs wasn't terrible, but I can't stand anything he has done since. Just an annoying watch.

Yeah he did lose his magic after a few movies...

I'm 2 episodes in the series and it seems okay to me so far.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Central Florida Knights
  2. TCU Horned Frogs
Of the last batch of best picture nominees, I enjoyed Tar, Triangle of Sadness and All Quiet on the Western Front.

I didn’t hate Everything, Everywhere All at Once.

You can have the rest of them.

I despised Women Talking. Just a pile of self-important, pretentious garbage…

Finally watched "Don't Look Up". I knew what to expect, but it was done better and is much more relevant and symbolic of society as we've seen it lately, than I had anticipated.

To an alarmingly high # of otherwise and often highly rational and intelligent people, there is simply no level of acceptable proof, scientific or otherwise, to allow even the possibility of change to their biased conceptions and faith in their preferred leaders. ?‍♂️

Another equally intriguing, less embellished, and more true story I recommend is The Big Short. While also entertaining, it should really shake one's expectations that "they" have it all under control and are doing what's right for society.

Anyone see the new Evil Dead yet?

As a big fan of the originals with Bruce Campbell & Sam Raimi as director, I finally saw the reboot a while back. It wasn't bad & had a few differences of course. Obv. better film production than Evil Dead 1 & 2, so more scary and less cult classic Bruce & fake gore.

Still prefer Evil Dead 1-3 including Army of Darkness in it's own slapstick hilarity.

The real bad-assery is in the Ash vs. Evil Dead series. Also directed by Sam Raimi (did the first Spiderman movies). Sadly it's run on Netflix just ended. Has some fun side characters, classic rock pumping, and creative creepiness relevant to modern era.

Ah they took the series off Netflix? That's a bummer, had been meaning to watch it. I did see a few episodes.

So far the two people I've known that have seen Evil Dead Rise have had good things to say about it.

What was her verdict? That might have been a tough sell, lol
She liked it. She's a fan of Dazed and Confused, but only owns an old DVD of it so I brought my Criterion copy over. We didn't get around to rewatching the latter, but she said something along the lines of, "Over the Edge is a much more relatable film to me than Dazed and Confused." So you can take that how you will.

After watching more and more Linklater films, I'm beginning to realize that I think he's pretty overrated. That includes Dazed. He's not terrible by any means, just way overrated. He's just meh to me.

Don't Look Up is picking on some pretty low hanging fruit I think. Didn't really care for it.

And why do I own a copy of Dazed and Confused? Picked it up on a whim during one of their 50% off sales as I know a lot of people that are really big fans.

Dude, you better put on a ring on that. I never dated a girl who liked or even had the interest to see Over the Edge unfortunately; if I did, I'd never let her go, lol.

I agree about Linklater. It's funny because I used to think he was great years ago, but watching his stuff now, it's just meh. I still like Dazed but it isn't as great as I once thought. And Suburbia -- I used to love this flick, but it's the same thing: I still like it, but it's really not as great as I once thought.

I think I've shown her enough films that she'll agree to just about anything I suggest to put on. So far she's sat through Man Bites Dog and Naked with me. Couple slow burning Tarkovsky films.

She even watched The Room with me.

Evil Dead Rise: boring. For the longest time I wanted the film to end so I could go home and drink more beer. And I did have one while I was there. A very fitting, Duvel.
