People are still going to be iffy about his character as that Sens shadow still hovers over his head a little. I still think those issues in Ottawa had a lot more to do with other certain players on the club BUT Emery did have a few gaffs of his own..late for practices etc etc.

Don't know about this one, I have never been a fan of picking through the left overs. Guess it can't hurt and a little competition for that back-up job should give the org a good idea of the desire and competitive edge of those battling for the spot. That never hurts.

WEll, if Stephen has interest then I am game to see the possibility. He has sold me with his development of Niemi and Crawford.

I still think that Salak will start the season in Rockford.

Crazyass Ray should make it interesting. Can I hope for a goalie fight? When Ray is on and has no distractions he is very good. I am willing to see what he can bring to the team. He can also be crazy as a loon, but so is Carcillo and people like that.

Very very good move, low risk because he's not under contract if it doesn't work or Salak shows he can be a reliable backup you cut Emery with no repercussions, high reward because he would be a quality backup and could step in if Salak isn't ready.

I'd love to see us sign him for our backup role if he earns it, still has some game left and won't demand a ton of money. As for the character issues I think he's over it. That hip surgery he had taught him a very valuable lesson IMO.

Just to be clear, he wasn't signed, it's a non-roster training camp agreement with an option to sign him through 10/01/11.

I really had doubts that Salak would be handed the back-up role, I'm glad they brought someone in that would give him a run for his money. Worth the look.

I approve of this message. If he wants it bad enough and has his head on straight he could be a solid backup and a solid number one if the need arises.

I like it. Emery can be a solid goalie. So if he can win the backup job we have two solid goalies.

I haven't heard anything bad from Anaheim about how Emery was. If they didn't have faith in Hiller (Which I think is a ridiculous hope), they'd keep him in a heartbeat.

I wonder if Hiller wasn't there entirely, if they were going to keep him or not. Likely they would have, I'm sure. With that team, you never know.

I watched Emery play quite a few times on the dish last seaon and he was really solid for Anaheim, so I don't see this as "picking through the trash." In fact, the other day I was looking at what's left for goalie depth and the names were: Pascal Leclaire, Marty Turco, Jeff Deslauriers, Eric Ersberg and Ray Emery. I would have been interested in the Hawks adding LeClaire, Ersberg or Emery but Emery seemed like the best fit because he gives us a shot at depth now and a proven guy...but is not young enough to blot out Salak's chances to get into the NHL during his current contract, which keeps him MOTIVATED! This is a good move, IMO.

Worth the tryout. Who knows, the numbers he put up last year were impressive considering the surgery he had recovered from. But it is still only a tryout.

LOL. My thoughts as well!

Of course that was before he got hurt but still impressive nonetheless.

Didn't Hiller have Vertigo for awhile?
