So if Emery is choosen as the back up this season for the Blackhawks then they are on the hook to pay $600K to Salak to play in Rockford, correct?

If that is a yes, how are we this season with cap space to even consider signing Emery?

AHL players do not count against your cap, so if Salak plays there his $600k has no effect on the cap.

If there was a serious injury, based on what I read in "Waivers 101" above, I believe we could call him up as an emergency call up. What we do have to do is decide more than 12 days before the regular season begins if we are going to send him down. If we do send Salak down, then he is there for the year barring injury because he would have to clear waivers to come up if Crow or Emery are just not playing well.

Here is our Cap outlook:

Here is Waivers 101, re-pasted--it's the best rundown of waiver rules I have seen yet:

I just want to see Burrows crash the net and see Ray knock him out.

I think that last video should be the other way around, looked like Maxim slashed Emery first.

I have always been a bit of an Emery fan and I'm pulling for em. And I think he has done learned any of his lessons now. Paid the piper. Put em in a sweater.

And why is that? Don't see the big issue anyone could have... he's just trying out. Id rather have him as backup than Salak who I think needs consistent playing time somewhere... namely in Rockford.

The Hawks have nothing to lose here and don't know whyy anyone would take issue with it.

First Carcillo, then Emery, whose next? TIGER FUCKING WILLIAMS????

Well I can understand people's reluctance on Dan Carcillo as he was actually signed by the Hawks and is a bonafide agitator, and not everyone likes that type of player.

Ray Emery had one incident where he kicked the shit out of Marty Biron and also fought Andrew Peters but other than that has had a clean slate... he had awesome numbers last year for the Ducks and if he could re-capture that for the Hawks as a backup role... who wouldn't want him?

It's not like Emery emulates Hextall or anything...

I'd take Hextall in a heartbeat over Emery.

Typically I would agree with you... but if Hextall pulled his psycho shit like this:

In today's NHL that's gonna cost his team 5 minutes of PK time.

If Hextall was in today's NHL he would be the world's most ejected goalie ever.

I'm taking 2010 Emery over 1986 Hextall.

Blasphemy. Any goalie that the great one says is was the toughest he ever played against, you take. Any goalie that thoroughly kicked the living, dead, undead, and not dead but pining for the fjords shit out of Chris Chelios, you take.

Wanting Emery over Fleury is like wanting Thibault over Tony O.

I guess I would want Hextall over Emery.... BUT Only if he could keep his temper in check.... think of how many times Hextall would have been suspended in todays NHL?

And yea bonus points for the Chelios incident.

Let me add that Hextall is naturally my favorite goalie of all time.

It adds competition to the camp and forces guys not to take it "easy". I personally would like to see Salak start the season in the AHL as a starter then sit a play 25 games up in the NHL. Nothing wrong with developing players, just like we are with the youngsters Beach, Morin, Smith, Lalonde, Makarov...
