It sits on the Northeastern side of the Gulf of California. About a 4 hour drive from Phoenix. It's not as nice as other places in Mexico that you can go - like Cabo, but great for a quick and cheap getaway.
My wife is a Fed. She gets updates all the time for travel and they all say to avoid Mexico.
I am glad you left with all of your vital organs and weren't sold to Mexican Sex Slavery.

We were a bit sketched out as they say to completely avoid driving Route 8 in Mexico, but we did it anyways. The people there are incredibly friendly towards Americans. Maybe because they want their organs, but most likely because that's how they make all their money - from tourists.

Totes agree. I see my wife's extended family twice a year (Thanksgiving/Xmas) and they always ask me what I want. It's just awkward, I don't like people buying me shit as it is because then I feel like I owe them something.

I stopped doing gifts with my wife 3 years ago and now we take a trip every year instead. So much better.

my wife and I (no kids) stopped exchanging gifts years ago. We also take trips instead.

Seriously. For me, after Halloween, it's Christmas time. I start watching all those cheesy Hallmark and Netflix Christmas movies on November 1st. Pop in some Mariah Carey/Pentatonix/Michael Buble/Trans Siberian Orchestra on my commute playlist. Since I live in NYC, I take the longer walking route to catch the A train from work in order to walk by the tree when it's lit up.

Yeah man, I unironically love all of it. Give me the music, the cheesey movies, bad sweaters, hot drinks, all of it.

How messed up do you have to be to not love Christmas, it's everything that is good with a tiny pinch of bad. I'm already looking forward to Christkindlmarket.

I visit family during Christmas every other year, this is an off year but god damn seeing that picture makes me want to buy tickets anyway.

country music

I'm talking radio country music in Chicago

Pure distilled chit music. Gosh dang I hate it so much.
On th country music point...
my parents listened to country when I was growing up. My taste was metal, but in the car or around the house was subjected to the parents music.
I recently started digging through the old country on Spotify and it was awesome- they playlists they created based on songs I searched were filled with shit I had completely forgotten about.

New country does blow ass IMO... trite and formulaic.
The older stuff, early 80s and older has some pretty damn good songs though.

Given the news lately, I am going to throw out gender reveal parties.
This is something my wife hates with a passion. I don't like them but I love seeing them fail. I'm an asshole like that.
...
I will say the nice thing about it is we got stuff that we use daily. I have a great coffee maker, nice set of pans, a decent knife set, good towels, and a Dyson that were all gifts on our list. That shit all gets used regularly.
...
I agree that registries/wish lists are a good thing especially with people getting married later and later in life. When my wife and I got married we had pretty much ever home/kitchen appliance we needed: plates, bowls, sliverware, pots, pans, etc. we did not need new ones--and why would we? We've already established our lives and it's not like we came fresh out of high school into marriage like my parent's generation. Modern times call for modern solutions.

Pretty much agree. The bro country really sucks. Formulaic is spot on. There are a few country artists that are legit but very few and far between. The older stuff, Hank, Hank, Jr. Cash, Willie, Waylon, and many more are legit. And when you have people with talent they have to appeal t9 the modern, bro country standards. Brad Paisley can shred a guitar but writes bubblegum, cotton candy bullshit.

Here's one.

Grown adults who are so afraid of death and dying that they cannot refer to it as such.

Instead, they say people have "Passed" like it's their fuckin' SAT's.

I find it hilarious nowadays that a parody on country music being formulaic has become the norm... david Allen Coe's "you never even call me by my name" was released in 75 and in all honesty has become the current country format.

For the 3 or 4 people in the world that have not heard it, it is good even if you dont care for country. Listen all the way through for the sad but true payoff.

It has always been a dream of mine to go to Soldier Field for a game in December or January when it's super cold. Only once, just to experience it.
I can oblige if you ever want to go.

Oh I am far from a Grinch... my nieces all get stuff.

My Mom is getting an Nvidia Shield and I am setting her up with various streaming options, she wanted to cut the proverbial cord.

To me the Xmas season can be over-the-top.

Also, I prefer gatherings during seasons with nicer weather... as I get older I find it odd we have 3 of the most crucial holidays clustered around some of the shittiest weather lol... Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
New Years = “crucial “ holiday.

That made my day. ?
