Hardly stealing. They just borrowed it.

Either way Mr. Apple it was an interesting article and the book should be as well.

I'll leave you something you can possibly dispell.

They were allowed to borrow it in exchange for pre-IPO Apple stock if I remember correctly.

The amazing thing is all of the tech that came out of PARC. Laser printers, Bitmap technology, OOP are just more that could have had Xerox the king of the entire industry.

I'm still not sold on the "allowed to borrow", but I'm sure it will be spelled out in the book. Since basically he was involved in most of it. The book that is.

But then HP would not have been allowed to borrow laser printing technology. Adobe and 3COM would never have been allowed to be created, etc. The reality is that PARC was working on bigger money makers like LCD and CD's at that time that a $10,000+ computer and associated tech did not seem like a money maker.

It has been well documented that it was not a one time view of what Xerox-PARC was doing. The engineers worked with Apple and some were consultants on the black flag (Mac) project. That is where the pre-IPO Apple stock to Xerox came into effect as compensation.

Also, keep in mind that the LISA utilized some of the same tech developed from PARC, just not the sexy part.

Just sexier to say that Apple stole the tech, just as it is interesting to say that M$ stole the UI from Apple (though they used an IBM design that they worked with IBM on).

Who did IBM steal the AS400 Technology from? We are derailing the thread some.
