Just don't stress if he starts out with like a 1-30 or doesn't homer for a month. It happens to even great players

You are preaching to the choir but the moment he goes through that the bust talk will start whether it happens right away or a month or two down the road. You know the first time he goes 0 for 4 with a couple of Ks Capt. Serious will be posting something like Rizzo is a beast.

Very exciting moment, as long as he can be effective, it will be a good sign going forward. Not everybody can be Starlin Castro and produce at such a young age, and Rizzo will still be learning along the way. If the actual stat lines are there, then great, if not, I will be looking for signs of his potential. He supposedly is gold glove caliber at 1B, and his offensive potential is tremendous. What I want to this year from him is: 1) Ability to hit good pitching 2) A nice swing 3) Plate Discipline

It is going to be more eye-test for me this early in his career, more like amateur scouts than Oakland's sabre-only scouting team.

Tuesday sounds about right. I wouldn't be surprised if they waited until the Atlanta series on the road though. I almost think they want to avoid the boos if Rizzo has a bad day at Wrigley in his debut. Remember when Castro made three errors and they booed him after he had the 6-RBI debut?

Cubs fans are stupid and I'm sure the management knows this. They'll be more cautious than usual here. Again, it also doesn't make sense to spend an extra $10MM over the course of Rizzo's career to sell a few extra tickets, if that, when they could wait a couple of weeks, save the money, and still be just as crappy even with Rizzo in the lineup. But that's just me being pragmatic, I'd rather watch him than some of the other crap on the team :D

At the time I said this would be the highlight of the season and I think that will hold true.

Na, him throwing the glove into the stands was :smug:

Rizzo will get booed at Wrigley at some point. He is going to have to face that. I am sure Theo and Jed have been doing everything to prepare Rizzo for the eventual treatment when he isn't Albert Pujols. I don't really think calling him up now is about selling tickets, but rather that Rizzo needs to be hitting against actual competition as opposed to feasting on AAA. We need to see what we have in the guy, and as you've said if he is good then he will be worth the extra millions.

I think that's probably what they are weighing now. If they try to avoid Super Two he might as well be a September call-up and that's not good for his development really. I think they could probably get two months' worth of assessment out of him if they called him up against Atlanta instead of against the Mets at Wrigley. That has the advantage of having him debut away from Wrigley and the meatheads, and still giving him plenty of time to show that he has it before rosters expand.

You call him up on the road.. preferably when we've got a few consecutive series away.

I think that be smart for him but Cubs will want to sell tickets for his debut with Cubs. I believe it will be TUE

It's not even that, it is just that he has to be up now, and no sense sending him from Iowa to Arizona when we can wait a day and give him an easier flight from Iowa to Chicago, but not play him against Santana.

They could also give him a straight flight to Atlanta  I guess you trust whatever the team decides to do though. Plus it's not our money.

I'm a bit confused as to where the "savior" hype has come from. I mean, we know he's a good AAA player, but hell, we got him for Andrew freaking Cashner. Cashner may end up being a solid #3 starter or a good set-up man, but right now he's got a 3.80+ era and a whip over 1.5.

I think Rizzo will end up being a good player, but for the rest of this season I'm just hopeful he bats around .280 with 12-15 hrs and plays solid defense. He's young, and if everyone's going to preach to me about how we need to give Castro time to mature into an MLB player, then the same's gotta be true about Rizzo.

The hype comes from the video game numbers he has put up in the PCL at age 22 and the fact that Theo/Jed absolutely love the kid. Because he is a top prospect and casual fans have seen the impact of guys like Harper and Trout I think many assume that he can come in and have a similar impact. I think most have expectations that far exceed those numbers X.

Most are welcome to hope for that, but he's 22 years old, and about to make the jump from AAA to MLB, and there's going to be a learning curve. If he was Bryce Harper or Mike Trout, he wouldn't've been bought for projected middle-of-the-rotation pitcher. Just my 2 cents tho.
