I think he could definitely still dunk. The thing is, he's scared to jump/exert energy/try and it's clear he's lost a step even since last season.

You are half right. The step is still there. This is mental. His last time he had it going was against Indiana (23 and 6). Not coincidentally, he turned his ankle that game.

The logic of "I've suffered multiple injuries, I'm just going to stop trying very hard to avoid more injuries" is insane, unprofessional, displays a lack of desire and passion for the game, and not only that, it doesn't even guarantee you won't get injured again. If indeed Rose is just not trying, and going half assed to avoid more injuries, I don't know how anyone could root for him.

Take a look at this video and you be the judge. You guys act like he can't dunk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAGrwFmDEg8

most of those dunks are weak a 40 year old Jordan could dunk like that

watch how explosive his leap is in these especially the reverse dunk vs NY...i doubt he could still do that

If the doctors advise you to be more careful in order to avoid injury, what would you do?

I'm not trolling, but this guy has to be.

I'm just engaging in some hyperbole.

As far as the injuries causing him to take it easy, that's a dangerous way to play. Constantly thinking about injury and taking it gingerly is, in fact, a good way to get injured. Not to mention the character flaws it reveals.

The main concerns I have with him aren't even physical. The finishing is worse, shooting is worse, shot selection is a little better than the jacked up 3's we saw last year but still not where it should be. I'm sure he'll get some of that back but if we're witnessing a lack of effort, then he might not get it back. Plus there is no better way to turn fans against you than to not put in effort.

I'm still not over the quitting in game 6 last year, I think we as fans deserve better than Rose half-assing it.

You saw those two hand dunks in the World Games? Getting up is not the problem, it is landing. You will not see him try to dunk on centers as much anymore. Doesn't mean he can't do it.

Not play professional basketball. He's cleared to play. I don't think at any point the doctors told him "Don't try, half ass it, you'll be fine. If you actually try to play and give real effort, you'll get injured again!"

Lol...that's ridiculous man.

Dunking is also a huge statement of aggression. you rarely see Rose play with that passion anymore. That is probably my main beef, he never looks like hes in the game. He used to always play with passion, and now he looks like hes apathetic. Look at those videos, all those dunks have him amped up. I'd settle for even a fist pump now.

Man...I mean we were frustrated as hell because it seemed like Rose didn't care. The Bulls were boring, he was apathetic.

He comes into the season and has the orbital setback. The rape accusation. The funky hair. A shitty attitude. Goes through the motions, looks disinterested. Gives basically insane self centered answers in interviews. Takes bad shots, doesn't attack.

All of a sudden the last two games. Haircut. Positive team attitude in interviews. Attacking basket. Drawing contact. Making hard sharp passes. Again...totally diffferent upbeat team first "Everyone is happy to be here and its a privilege" answers to interviews now.

****...it was all mental? Somebody got through to him? **** would we like to know? At this point...deep sigh of relief guys. These threads were valid, that was the situation. I vote we close them and just support this new effort by Derrick to redeem himself. Put the past behind us, the new era has begun.

Hoiberg is doing some creative things to exploit what his players do, not what his system should do, and thats the right call. What does Noah do? Get them most out of Noah. Etc. Something is going on in that lockerroom and a few players look reborn.

Most of the posts in this thread are hilarious. The guy broke his face. Of course he was going to start the season slow.

It's also hilarious how the lie of Rose quitting in the playoffs is now a talking point from the Rose trolls ... lol.

Rose absolutely quit in game 6 but he wasn't the only one

anyway its good that Rose has put together 2 games in a row where he has looked like he gives a damn. they are not much to write home about from an efficiency stand point but hes looking better....hopefully he continues upward

Rose is just gonna continue to make so many dumb fucks in this thread look so damn stupid. And it's not even playoffs yet. Someone wake me up when it is.

It's okay though, players (especially former MVPs) forget how to play basketball all the time. So I def see where most of you were coming from.

theres more than a justifiable reason to give up on Rose. hes injury prone and hasn't been able to show any consistency thats hes still a good player.

now if he continues to improve and becomes a decent player again folks would have been proven wrong for counting him out. but at this point you can't blame anybody for giving up on him

we all hope he walks on water during the playoffs like you say he will though. we're all fans and success of the team overshadows our opinions...i'll be the first to give Rose his props and admit i was wrong

It's actually very sane. You get hurt with an unrelenting reckless style of play and suffer two major injuries. As well as a slur of other injuries as a direct result. That's when you start thinking a little less about going all out for the team every single unimportant regular season game and start thinking a little more about doing whatever it takes to sustain your health for yourself. In terms of another pay day (who tf wouldn't worry about that) and in terms of being able to play well during (important) playoff games.

Not saying it hasn't been somewhat of a problem. I'm just saying it makes perfect sense. And carefulness, in itself, isn't a bad quality in a professional athlete who needs to be a superstar in the playoffs to be viewed as having a successful all-star career.

He's been pretty passive. I know he missed a lot of shots tonight but I'm happy he's being aggressive.

No. This is your opinion and also a lie that's been spread by Rose trolls on message boards and a few Chicago sports media guys.

The entire team loves the guy and that wouldn't happen if he had "quit" on them.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
In the Memphis game, we saw small flashes of Rose's terrific talent. It was like a tease, though, not a transformation back in time to when he was great.

Just as easy as it was to say Derrick was done, it's easy to say Derrick is back. I'm still sitting back waiting to see what we really have in Derrick. It's promising to see him play this way and my heart tells me he can do it the rest of the season.

That said, a few observations: 1. He can't (or just isn't willing to) jump as high anymore, which has caused him to miss a lot at the rim. 2. He is still lightning quick, albeit not as explosive as in years past, but he can still get to the rim. Finishing is where he needs to adjust. I have liked what I have seen over the last few games and hope he keeps that aggressiveness up. :buttrock: I believe in Derrick.

the only lie/opinion here is your revisionist history of what happened. the team only scored 73 points. they quit and Rose was apart of it. he only took 4 shots (only making 1) and shot no freethrows during the whole 2nd half

that speaks for itself

If you watch the tape of the game, you can see him giving Butler the ball and pretty much bowing out of the plays. He most definitely stopped playing at a high level. It was obvious.
