Here's a D.Rose haiku:
The rose blossoms young,
Cold winter hurts its petals,
Rose blossoms no more.

But forreal, I do think that Rose can play better than he is now...just not much better. The flipping the switch in the playoffs thing, just not gonna happen. And it's not like we expected MVP Rose, not one person was asking for 26 and 8 per game, but what we got is Marquis Teague 2.0

Westbrook has had his meniscus torn and his face broken. The only thing Westbrook hasn't done is torn his ACL. Otherwise He's had the same injuries as Rose and has come back looking better from each of them.

Dont you think not tearing your ACL is a big difference??

We can't predict how Westbrook would be after an ACL...but there's certainly nothing I could look at that would lead me to believe Russ wouldn't be just as tenacious, play with as much intensity, or play like he doesn't give a shit. He's a much, much, much tougher player than Rose both physically and with the attitude he plays with.

Who knows how Westbrook would react to an ACL tear, but I do think the general athletic population has generally seen a decline after such an injury. I'll give Rose credit for that...he physically looked just as explosive post ACL tear as he did before which doesn't seem to be as common. I'll say this as well, mentally, he was way different than what we see now two meniscus surgeries later.

All true.

The thing about Russ is that as soon as he's healthy enough to be on the court, he plays the same way. Even if he lost some athleticism, does anyone think he wouldn't be going all out every game? I can't see that. The guy would still be attacking and playing some of the most intense basketball in the league.

Yeah that's definitely true from what we've seen thus far. Westbrook is pretty much Kobe/MJ in mentality. Basically a psychopath.

i disagree with Rose looking as athletic as before. his finishing around the rim has been a problem since he first came back form the ACL injury which i think is due to him losing a bit of lift

really have we seen Derrick get up like he used to? i don't recall seeing him do so. he can still run fast but i think that explosive leap is gone...we took it as him taking it easy but after 4 years of not seeing it im not sure its there anymore

It's possible he has lost some lift. We know for certain he is scared to jump nowadays, if nothing else.

I think he had about 90% of his athleticism and explosiveness when he came back from the ACL. Watch some highlights, he was still finishing over guys, attacking the basket, and getting out and running. I didn't buy the "5 inch increase in vertical" lol but he did seem to have most of his ability and still was elite at the position in terms of athletic ability.

We're going to have to judge at the end of the season. At this point, Rose is a mystery. Day-to-day and long term. He's shown flashes of greatness and has been completely awful. The Bulls have the best group of offensive players from the 2-5 positions since Rose has been a Bull. And since 1998 for that matter. Let's just see if Rose can get past the eye injury and become at least consistently good, if nothing else.

If Rose is playing well, the Bulls are fringe contenders.

Rose shown 1 flash of greatness. That was the OKC game. He showed another flash of playing very good. That was against Indiana. Other than that, he's been terrible.

I'd say the 2nd game against Charlotte was at least good. 19 points, 5 assists, 7 boards. Wasn't that efficient (8-17), but definitely not terrible.

Whoohoo 3 games of not terrible.

I think he could definitely still dunk. The thing is, he's scared to jump/exert energy/try and it's clear he's lost a step even since last season.

I think he's just not trying that hard. I have no doubt he can still dunk/be fast/explosive. He just chooses not to. After having some of the worst injury luck in the past decade, perhaps I don't blame him as much as others, but it's definitely something he in theory should fix.
