Interest being "we'd love if it you picked up $17MM of his contract and we don't have to give you anything back"
I'd rather just have Z pitch for the Cubs since the money has to be paid anyway. He's not Carlos Silva...he can still get outs every now and then.
If Z comes back to the Cubs next year I wont watch any game he plays in. The ****** walked out on the team. If Theo really wants to change the culture no way he brings Z back that would be another ticking time bomb that will go off. The guys a cancer he better not come back. Or I will be disappointed in Theo a bit
That's your choice and nobody will stop you. What Theo is hopefully going to do is analyze how much production Z can provide and then look and see what he gets back in hypothetical trades. If it turns out that keeping Z is the best for the team production-wise and performance-wise, then go for it. If the best thing is to trade him for junk, that's fine too. Either way, the man is getting paid. If he can provide value, then he might as well do it in a Cubs uniform. The 2013 option probably has no chance of vesting anyway, so one more year of Z is all you'd have to stomach.
It isnt about production I dont care if he has 25 win stuff next year. THE GUY QUIT ON HIS TEAM. If I was in charge he would never step foot in Wrigley again after what he did in Atlanta.
I think the bigger question is, is his potential production more positive than his potential clubhouse cancer/team distraction is negative...
That being said, I hope we're done w/ him.
That is the question that should be asked and analyzed by Theo and friends before they simply cut him loose.
But don't you think that question has already been answered by Zambrano's last couple years in Chicago?
Z, Marmol, $8MM for Joakim Soria...
lol no way the royals take that.
but if people actually want Z back after what he did last year than i dont know what this world has come too. He quit on his team. Has anyone played sports? If a player quits on his teammates and the organization you cant bring him back that sends a terrible message. Z is a tool i hope I never see him in a Cubs uni ever again.
Baseball is a business. It doesn't matter what message it sends, if he can produce, that's all that matters.
I agree what he did was bad, but don't act like this is a game of feelings. It's a game of money.... insert moneyball joke here.
And if Zambrano's production negatively affects the other 24 players in the dugout :tiptoe:
Yes it does matter if he is a cancer in the club house blaming all his teammates for his own failures than what he produces is negative to the team and cancerous to us. Team chemistry is something that is always missing in Chicago and Big Z and players like him are a big reason for that.
If Theo's vision for the Cubs way is bringing players like Z in I want no part of his way.
